Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

Pity you can't vote for it or add your name under "Affects me too" like on Launchpad, I'm pretty sure there are lot of people that would appreciate a fix.

Re: Ideas for Cinnamon applets / extensions

Well thanks a lot, that's a start for sure :) I'm not a programmer so I think I'll try to add the chars I need hardcoding them like you did, and hoping someone will pick it up. You might want to upload it to http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets and ask for help.

Re: Ideas for Cinnamon applets / extensions

Shopping lens *done right* for Cinnamon based on this Gnome Shell extension:

Looks like a worthy addition to Cinnamon :)

Re: Ideas for Cinnamon applets / extensions

A replacement for the Gnome2 Character Palette applet (a.k.a. CharpickerApplet). Wow, I really miss that from Gnome 2 times! Unfortunately the current fragmentation of GNOME-based desktops means that everything has to be written/adapted at least three times: for Cinnamon, Gnome-Shell and Unity (don...

Re: 'Safely Remove' option missing

Technically that may be correct, but the language used doesn't seem correct as well: I associate the word 'Eject' to CD/DVD media, so when "Safely remove" vanished in my LM 14 install I thought that something had gone wrong (until I found this thread :). 'Unmount' makes perfect sense to me...

Re: Cinnamon "grid" icons

Hope my post won't be considered a "necroing" of this thread :) but I found it by chance while looking for a fix to this problem: having a large monitor I reduced the icon dimension, and the alignment problem is really annoying and distracting. IMHO this is one of the few things that Windo...

Re: Battery uptime and Upgrade to 14.1

I can't answer your first two questions, but I'd like to know what happened to USB "safe remove" in LM 14: it definitely was there in previous versions, and now it's gone! I don't think that choosing "expel" is the right way to deal with USB drives, especially if you've just writ...

Re: Default file manager in Cinnamon and Mate

That file exists and it surely isn't empty on Linux Mint 14.

Re: Cinnamon under Ubuntu 12.10?

Oh I see, hope there will be some sane form of versioning control then.

Thanks a lot for your work on the PPA, bimse.

Re: Cinnamon under Ubuntu 12.10?

Oops, hadn't seen your reply, Vincent. Thanks, I will surely try LM 14, the Ubuntu + Cinnamon thing is currently on a separate partition to try the latest and greatest stuff, my work version is still LM 13 + Cinnamon 1.4 (sadly, since 1.6.x gave me problems I couldn't solve).

Re: Cinnamon under Ubuntu 12.10?

Thanks for the advice, both of you (also, I posted in the wrong forum >_<). Just a couple of questions for bimse ;) - I also use Dropbox, is the Nemo version 'safe' to install and use? - are you planning to make a Nadia/Quetzal version of your PPA? Cinnamon developme seems to proceed at good speed, ...

Cinnamon under Ubuntu 12.10?

HI all, is there a guide about how best configure a Cinnamon desktop under the latest Ubuntu release (12.10)? I'm having some problems with Nemo, which is not showing icons on the desktop (in spite of settings) and several little annoyances, like those weird scrollbars used by Ubuntu Unity (guess I'...

Re: Help! Disk space misteriously missing!

DrHu, thanks for all the info! The partition is in ext4 format, I can see exactly what uses disk space thx to baobab and other tools, the problem was (see below) in the difference between the total disk space and the used space + free space total: the two don't match. A friend of mine told me that I...

Re: Help! Disk space misteriously missing!

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately Baobab just confirmed what I noticed by just confirmed what I noticed by calculating folder space with Nautilus: that part of the disk space is missing. In fact according to Baobab the partition is 31.9GB big, according to GParted it's 39.11GB, according to the D...

Help! Disk space misteriously missing!

Hi all, I have a secondary partition were I moved some of my stuff (Thunderbird mail database, stuff I work on etc.) which is about 40GB in size: starting from about a week disk space has been constantly decreasing for no apparent reasons, I've deleted quite a bit of old cruft but it didn' help much...

Re: Any news on Cinnamon?

Considering the problems I'm having right now (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=113884), that makes a lot of sense. What's the most painless way to revert to 1.4? I think I saw a post explaining that, but can't remember which one >_< Or I could try to open a new issue on github,...

Re: Serious problem with Cinnamon 1.6.1

Unfortunately I still suffer from mini-freezes, even after having removed all applets and reinstated the default configuration. Puzzling thing is that they are rarer now, so that might be connected to the applets somehow. I've now disable the Dropbox service, just in case ...

Re: Serious problem with Cinnamon 1.6.1

Thanks a lot for your suggestions! I disabled the weather applet and more, and had only a couple of mini-freezes after that. Perhaps there's still a problem in some of the remainin "non standard" applets, they're only 3 at this point: Recent documents, Better settings and the shutdown dial...

Serious problem with Cinnamon 1.6.1

Hi all, after upgrading to Cinnamon 1.6.1 on my Linux Mint 13 install I'm facing quite a serious problem: the return of the dreaded desktop freeze! It seems to happen anytime that there's some sort of disk activity: when I insert a USB key or a DVD, or at almost regular intervals: the desktop is com...

You have to use dconf-editor (package dconf-tools) to that purpose: go to org>gnome>desktop>wm>keybindings to configure them.
