Cinnamon under Ubuntu 12.10?

HI all, is there a guide about how best configure a Cinnamon desktop under the latest Ubuntu release (12.10)? I'm having some problems with Nemo, which is not showing icons on the desktop (in spite of settings) and several little annoyances, like those weird scrollbars used by Ubuntu Unity (guess I'...

Re: Help! Disk space misteriously missing!

DrHu, thanks for all the info! The partition is in ext4 format, I can see exactly what uses disk space thx to baobab and other tools, the problem was (see below) in the difference between the total disk space and the used space + free space total: the two don't match. A friend of mine told me that I...

Re: Help! Disk space misteriously missing!

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately Baobab just confirmed what I noticed by just confirmed what I noticed by calculating folder space with Nautilus: that part of the disk space is missing. In fact according to Baobab the partition is 31.9GB big, according to GParted it's 39.11GB, according to the D...

Help! Disk space misteriously missing!

Hi all, I have a secondary partition were I moved some of my stuff (Thunderbird mail database, stuff I work on etc.) which is about 40GB in size: starting from about a week disk space has been constantly decreasing for no apparent reasons, I've deleted quite a bit of old cruft but it didn' help much...

Re: Any news on Cinnamon?

Considering the problems I'm having right now (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=113884), that makes a lot of sense. What's the most painless way to revert to 1.4? I think I saw a post explaining that, but can't remember which one >_< Or I could try to open a new issue on github, I w...

Re: Serious problem with Cinnamon 1.6.1

Unfortunately I still suffer from mini-freezes, even after having removed all applets and reinstated the default configuration. Puzzling thing is that they are rarer now, so that might be connected to the applets somehow. I've now disable the Dropbox service, just in case ...

Re: Serious problem with Cinnamon 1.6.1

Thanks a lot for your suggestions! I disabled the weather applet and more, and had only a couple of mini-freezes after that. Perhaps there's still a problem in some of the remainin "non standard" applets, they're only 3 at this point: Recent documents, Better settings and the shutdown dialog. Going ...

Serious problem with Cinnamon 1.6.1

Hi all, after upgrading to Cinnamon 1.6.1 on my Linux Mint 13 install I'm facing quite a serious problem: the return of the dreaded desktop freeze! It seems to happen anytime that there's some sort of disk activity: when I insert a USB key or a DVD, or at almost regular intervals: the desktop is com...

Re: User selectable workspace switcher shortcut(s) not worki

You have to use dconf-editor (package dconf-tools) to that purpose: go to org>gnome>desktop>wm>keybindings to configure them.

Re: Strange behavior since cinnamon 1.6 update

Your description fits, at least in part, with this reported and now closed issue: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/705. I only suffer from the occasional freezes since I upgraded to Cinnamon 1.6 but, in my case, they seem to be related to any disk/media activity: every time I insert a US...

Re: Workspace keyboard shortcuts not working

I resolved this recently after upgrading to Cinnamon 1.6 (guess it should go in a FAQ): basically you have to use dconf-editor (package name is dconf-tools iirc) and go to org > gnome > desktop > wm > keybindings to set them.

Re: Any news on Cinnamon?

Solved point n. 2: you have to use dconf-editor to set the desired shortcut ... >_<

Found a new little hiccup: Cinnamon freezes for about 3-4 seconds, then starts again as if nothing had happened. Seems to happen more frequently when I plug in/out USB keys. Anybody's seen this?

Re: Any news on Cinnamon?

Ok, I made the jump and I'm currently suffering from a couple of hiccups, nothing really serious but a bit annoying: 1. Icon names' color on the desktop is now a dark grey instead of white, unfit both for light and dark backgrounds (I think I saw this mentioned elsewhere, will check the thread); 2. ...

If you're running 1.4 under Linux Mint 13 (Maya) you can install Cinnamon 1.6 by enabling the unstable repository (Romeo).

Re: A couple of remarks about future versions of Cinnamon

I guess it is our different perceptions of a dock. Personally, I've always considered a dock to be designed for application launching only. Thus Xfce doesn't count, and GNOME 3's dock was rather hidden, so I didn't really consider it. Unity, it also had lenses and dash so I didn't count it. MacOS, ...

Re: Adding scroll bar `up' and `down' arrows in LM 13

In any case the scroll increments are different when using he arrows or the keys. That's another good point, but I'm afraid that if theme designers are not convinced we'll have to either use beautiful themes with less than functional (and ugly looking) scrollbars, or use one of the few (and often u...

And now we got Cinnamon 1.6! But I've read it won't be available for Maya through the usual channels any time soon... Great news! Except the part where we have to wait if we want it on Maya ;) hmm so is it safe to install on maya via the daily ppa or is there a stable ppa somewhere i wonder? I'd de...

Re: A couple of remarks about future versions of Cinnamon

Remeber that Cinnamon's vision is to be a traditional desktop. As far as I know, no desktop environements come with a native dock except for enlightenment. But enlightenment has all sorts of crazy stuff such as penguins drilling holes in your windows, so I don't think that should count. You mean no...
