Re: [SOLVED] I HAVE HAD IT! Linux/Podcasts/Android...

Just to close this out, I'll agree that Podcast Addict is pretty impressive. Lord knows it has about 500 more options and settings than any person will ever need. If you need to fine tune, REALLY fine tune every aspect of your pod listening experience, and if you appreciate a superb set of tools for...

Partition mounted multiple times

(This may stem from a series of forced reboots in recent weeks while figuring out another issue.) Somehow I seem to have multiple mounts for a single partition (see screen grab) The folder "PICTURES" also appears as "PICTURES1" and "PICTURES2" and items that download to one may not be accessible if ...

Re: [SOLVED] I HAVE HAD IT! Linux/Podcasts/Android...

I have it working now, but wow, the interface is downright crazy. Two hamburger menus - one on the left, and one on the right - WAY too many settings and choices. I thought that I had it set up the way I wanted it, and thought that it had downloaded the podcasts, jumped in the car hit "Play" and was...

Re: Freeze on Sleep

I'm prepared to call this one "Closed." I've been back with the original mouse and keyboard (Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard Model K330/M215) for week with no problems. I'm assuming that the kernel upgrade fixed the problem. For newbies, go to: Update Manager View | Linux Kernels Scroll down an...

Re: Freeze on Sleep

OK, at some point a couple of weeks ago the problem stopped. At the time I was using the Logitech keyboard with wireless dongle #1 and a Logitech mouse on wireless dongle #2. I had also done a couple of small kernel upgrades via Update Manager. So today I've switched back to the mouse and keyboard c...

Re: I HAVE HAD IT! Linux/Podcasts/Android...

Podcast Addict looks like the solution. It allows you to lock it down to only use WIFI, which is good. And yeah, if I can trust it on the phone I've no need for the desktop application. Right now I've just installed the free, ad supported version, but I expect I'll update to the paid one if it works...

[SOLVED] I HAVE HAD IT! Linux/Podcasts/Android...

Wow. It feels as if nothing has changed since this post back in 2009. All I wanted to do was: 1) Download podcasts on my PC 2) Sync them to a player on my Android phone. 3) Listen to them in the car. I'm in Canada, the land where an $80 a month basic cel package includes ONE gig of data, so I very s...

Re: Freeze on Sleep

Tentative conclusion: I have a Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard Model K330/M215. I suspected the wireless USB dongle might be the problem, but it seems it was the mouse. I'm now running the K330 keyboard, which connects via its USB dongle, and different M185 mouse that uses a second, different U...

Re: Freeze on Sleep

So far so good. I'll give it a couple of days and report back, but I'm cautiously optimistic that upgrading the kernel fixed the problem.[/s} Spoke too soon. Machine just froze (or at least lost keyboard and mouse) Just after closing VirtualBox and Update Manager. Only Chrome and Libreoffice were r...

Re: Freeze on Sleep

Update Manager says only 4.4.0-67 is available. I'll give that a whirl and see what happens.

(I have never compiled from source, and happily trust tools to do stuff like this.)

[SOLVED] Freeze on Sleep

Yes, one of those problems.... I built a new system a while back, and did a fresh install of Cinnamon 17.3 Rebecca. The OS is on SSD, documents etc on a big disc drive. A Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard, and a Brother printer, are the only hardware attached. With a very few exceptions the entir...

Re: E-mail client alternative to Thunderbird?

A couple of years ago I asked this question over at Soylent News https://soylentnews.org/article.pl?sid=14/05/13/1348225 . The answers and discussions are probably still relevant. The long and short of it seemed to be that there's really no good desktop client, with the possible exception of ClawsMa...

Firefox Facebook Image Upload Madness

Running 17.3 Rosa 64 bit Firefox 49.0 I don't know when this started, but lately it's impossible to upload an image to Facebook from Firefox. 1) I create a post, type in text, then select a photo from my hard drive, or drag one to the window, and things go totally crazy. 2) Immediately the photo and...

Well, by way of follow up, the problem seems to have disappeared, and I've done nothing.

Go figure.

Re: Freeze w ASUS MB and 17.3

The ASUS settings have pretty much everything disabled. Deep S4 [Disabled] When the system enters the S4 state and this item is set to [Enabled], the system will be put to deep S4 sleep state to reduce power consumption. The system in deep S4 state can only be woken up by using the power button. Res...

Re: Freeze w ASUS MB and 17.3

The Mint power settings are to:

Turn of screen after ten minutes
Suspend: never.

I'm going to reboot and see what ASUS has in their set up menus.

(Needless to sat this while problem is intermittent, and has refused to happen since I posted my original forum message.) :)

Re: Freeze w ASUS MB and 17.3

The case, CPU fan are all brand new and working fine, so I don't thinkit's heat. "Have you been at the computer when this happen? If yes, did you immediately try to restart? If yes and the restart was successful, then it is probably not a heat problem." When I have found it locked I've reset via the...

Re: Freeze w ASUS MB and 17.3

The freeze happens when the computer has been idle a for few hours - usually overnight, or during the day. Firefox is the one program always running. Initially I thought that the memory leak in the FF version included with 17.3 was causing the problem, but after upgrading to the current FF version t...

Freeze w ASUS MB and 17.3

I suspect that there'sa troubleshooting guide somewhere. If someone could point me to it it would great. Just built a new system with an ASUS AM1M-A motherboard, 8 gig RAM, TP-LINK wifi card, and SSD. It's wonderful, except that periodically - usually after being up for a day or so - it just halts. B...

Ah well, found an unencrypted version of the same file elsewhere.

Honestly, this is the stuff that keeps the Pirate Bay in business.
