Re: LMDE-2 201701 Final

You being able to use Jessie which is the current LMDE base is the main reason I responded here. My only guess is the non-free drivers used in Mint are actually creating an issue when usually they make things easier. With Stretch being in RC 2 I would think LMDE 3 isn't far off so the new spin at t...

Re: LMDE-2 201701 Final

Did any of you having issues try both integrity check on the DVD or USB or start in compatibility mode? Of course if you do get it to start and install in compatibility mode you will probably still have to do some changes after the install. Usually graphics. Check your hardware to see if there is k...

Re: LMDE-2 201701 Final

I was hoping I could run the updated LMDE-2 on a Toshiba laptop I have. That laptop runs LM17.2 MATE, LM18.1 MATE and Debian Jessie 8.7.1 MATE but even the newer LMDE-2 won't even boot up on the laptop to do an install. No big loss though. It was just a play period thing. No need to have LMDE on the...

Re: Linux Mint 13 reaches end of life in April

If you find that LM 17.3 or newer doesn't work well for you, LM 17.2 may be the good choice. It's supported the same as LM17.3 and comes without all the transitional systemd and hardware issues you may experience with 17.3 and beyond. I'm not kicking anything new. I am just saying some people with o...

Re: Boot sequence stuck at Setting Preliminary Keymap

Boot sequence stuck at Setting Preliminary Keymap This thread is getting old but the problem still exists. I cannot even install lmde2 MATE or lmde2 beta MATE on my Toshiba Satellite C55-B because the install freezes during installer bootup at this specific point. I've tried 64 bit, 32 bit, dvd, usb...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Although I can verify that the 'sleep 15' does resolve autologin issues I have reverted back to my solution of disabling network manager and utilizing /etc/network/interfaces for my network connection. I have done so because there seems to be a problem between network manager and the dnscrypt-proxy...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

What I have noticed: I have 2 systems with an updated LM from older versions => it continues to work On 2 other systems with fresh installs of LM => fail I have had autologin issues with everything from LM 17.3 onward. I do have to admit I have not tried upgrading from 17.2 to whatever may be neces...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Hi :) also test.. set a sleep 15 into the /etc/rc.local .. and wow.. autologin works every time.. I can verify this to be the case. At least for me it is on an install I just did earlier this afternoon. Now to see if it holds. Time will tell that. Although I can verify that the 'sleep 15' does reso...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

sudo apt-get remove plymouth btrfs-tools and autologin work again :D Good to hear. As time passes let us know if it continues to work for you. In LM 18.1 MATE & Cinn I discovered that if I was running clamav (clamd and freshclam) autologin always failed for me. Without clamav the majority of the ti...

Re: Problem with inconsistent login behavior on Mint 18

(This is not a fix. It's experimentation I have been doing. I works for me but that does not mean it won't be a disaster for you.) In regards to my comments in an earlier post regarding clamav --- After some searching I have come up with a solution apparently. I now have clamav installed with clamd ...

Re: Problem with inconsistent login behavior on Mint 18

<----snipped----> Has whatever was causing this login inconsistency been fixed in version 18.1 ? Thanks. I've had a horrible time with auto logins with 17.3, 18, and 18.1 beta. (worked perfectly with 17.2 and prior). I have had a much better experience with 18.1 MATE and Cinnamon so far. I did disc...

Re: Automatic login is failing in Mint 18

I installed LM 18.1 Cinnamon final just after it was released. Two days of many tests reboots, shutdowns, logouts/ins, etc. have been done with successful auto logins. I've taken my time over this time to set things up the way I like them. I just would do a couple of few things and then do a test re...

Re: Automatic login is failing in Mint 18

This 18.1 install refuses to boot up with upstart. Gets part way and freezes. No time to look into it yet. I confirm for 18.1. I never tried it with this build until now. Okay. I am not going to spend time with that right now then. I am grasping at thin air. Just trying to find common denominators ...

Re: Automatic login is failing in Mint 18

You might try what I suggested to Pjotr here . Note this is not a solution, but a test. I tried it a few times in a test system and it seemed to help, but to be sure there would be more tests needed, which I did not do because of the other unsolved problems in LM 18.x. This 18.1 install refuses to ...

Re: Automatic login is failing in Mint 18

The login failure problem continues to exist in Linux Mint 18.1 beta MATE. Haven't tried Cinnamon but I consider the problem is still there too. I know a number of people consider this may be a hardware problem but that's actually unlikely considering it fails over a broad spectrum of hardware diffe...
