Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

The mint logo has always shown properly for me. Hm, might be an issue with VirtualBox. On the other hand, the logo displays fine in all my VMs for any of the LM 17.x versions. With full disk encryption a message indicating a successful unlock is displayed along with the logo. I don't know if that p...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

After update to mdm 2.0.10 my mdm auto login survived one reboot but has failed every time since.

The mint logo has always shown properly for me.

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Maybe I do not understand you correctly. If you install the system, you have to set a password during installation - regardless, if you set to auto-login or not. In case the login has to be done manually - because of your setting or because auto-login fails - you always have to enter the password. ...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

This AM I booted up the fresh install I did yesterday. I still have done no updates or anything else. The login screen came up and after I selected my user name there was a twist. This time I was required to also provide a password. Yesterday I had to select user but not provide password. Also, the ...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

@ clem I don't have a /var/log/system so here's my mdm from /var/log/syslog: http://ledduk.net/paste/syslog-mdm.txt This was from a totally fresh install. No updates. No nothing. This log is after 2nd bootup. I selected auto login in the installer. I got the login window on first boot and I just let...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

@Cosmos: Sorry that I cannot help you with the time/date thing. We get no auto login at any time with mdm other than first bootup after an install. I agree. In my opinion the blog setup is not being used in the way it should be in regards to commenting. Specifically, I think bug reports, problems en...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Uh....hum....in the interim...lightdm seems to afford me a real auto login. At least I installed it and after editing lightdm.conf I was able to auto login after reboot/shut down several times. I'll keep using it for a while and see how it does. Maybe it will work as a fill-in until mdm is fixed.

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

This and the comparably much longer boot time makes it doubtful, if Sarah will get my next girl-friend. Rosa behaves much more friendly to me. Actually. my main squeeze is still at Rafaela. The kernel(s) in Rosa don't play well with some Logitech wireless keyboards.Form boxes, fill-in-the bl...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

[quote="Cosmo."]... I updated systemd (it is level 4 update, so not visible by default). After rebooting auto-login worked (without doing anything else except the update). I will wait 1 or 2 days before I consider this as solution. It would be interesting to know, if this helps other affected users....

Re: Linux Mint 18 Mate beta slow boot times

LM 18 MATE 64

Definitely much slower boot up in comparison to LM 17.2

97 sec. vs 45 seconds Huge difference.

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Thank you for the information about tty1. Would like to read, how this appears for others. At this time I have the suspicion, that the origin of the problem lies in systemd. That would explain, why the problem never arose with LM 17.3 and previous. I could also find complaints about that problem wi...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

As you can read in my bug report I came across an observation, where I am unsure, if it is related to the problem or not: I cannot use the first virtual console (usually ctrl-alt-F1), tty2 to tty6 do work. (This problem does not exist in LM 17.x).) Can you please check, whether tty1 is usable in yo...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Hi :) @trapper do you test with a checkdisk on boot? sudo touch /forcefsck and boot goes your system after that, directly in the desktop? Hi. :) I still get a login screen and either I select the user or my timed login takes over. :( Also, I have full disk encryption and lvm. The check disk takes a...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

As I already wrote: Report this on the proper place. Writing this here will likely never get noticed by the developers. I was really surprised, that Clem jumped in here yesterday, but I think this was a rare exception. It's been reported there (the blog). Several times by several people. We're just...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Another update with bad news. On my install where auto login was configured in the installer auto login is now failing. This is after no less than 6 restarts with successful auto login. I then shut down the machine and fired it up an hour and a half later. Auto login failed and fails on all restarts...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

I have new information and revelations. If I install LM 18 and set up auto login afterwards, auto login doesn't work correctly. If I select the option for auto login while running the installer, auto login works as it should. My /etc/mdm/mdm.conf when I configure auto login after installation contai...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Right. Have used the default greeter and various others. Doesn't change anything. I always get the login window , login will continue without interaction only if I've set up timed login. Otherwise I have to click user icon and in cinn I even have to give password. Three different machines, different...
