Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

I just installed LM 18 Cinnamon and I get strangerauto login results than I get with MATE. Same as with MATE, the login window comes up even though auto login is set up. I am required to click my user icon. In MATE login would proceed from there. In cinn I still have to enter my password to continue...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Hi, If your home directory is encrypted, you CANNOT autologin (and your name won't appear in the combobox where you choose which user is supposed to be auto-logged in). I do not have encrypted home, per se, Clem. I do have full disk encryption on this drive though but that's unlocked prior to syste...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

On my system autologin works as it always did in previous Mint versions. So there must be some special configuration, which triggers the problem. Okay, thanks but I don't know what that 'special' configuration could be seeing that it can be the first thing I set after LM 18 installation and it fail...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

I don't see the problem here - otherwise I would have confirmed the problem. So it seems, that the problem appears only in certain configurations. Give the developers as much information as you can and some time, to go into it. That is the reason, why a beta does exist. The problem is simple. We've...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

LM18 beta MATE 64 I have the same situation with several LM 18 beta installs. Auto login always fails. The login screen presents and requires me to physically select user even though there is only one user and that user is assigned to auto login. Once I select user no password is required bu it sure...

Re: Mint 18 Cinnamon 64 bit BETA early review

I am testing LM18 MATE 64. It has a few hiccups but most are also found in U16.04 MATE upstream. Also had a bit of trouble initially getting USB WiFi recognized. Went well with the installer but I had to manually create the WiFi connection in my installed LM18. Had to unplug and plug in USB WiFi a c...

Re: Mint 18 Beta release date?

The LM 18 beta is available in the 'testing' folder of numerous mirror sites. It simply has not been announced yet

Check for 'testing' folder in the mirrors. Many now have LM 18 available.

Re: Installing Mint on new laptop, how to keep MS recovery?

To be safe, if you have a new PC find it's manufacturer's program which lets you create your factory image (either to USB or DVD). By this, I mean the factory state & NOT a new Windows created image. It's usually in a folder under the maker's name. That way, you can recover in the event of a HDD/SS...

Re: Odd Keyboard Behavior - LM17.3 - Mate

Here's a ubuntu thread on the 5555555's problem with Logitech keyboards on U 15.10 & 16.04. Also a link to the bug report page. There is a suggestion on the page to turn off 'repeat keys' in the keyboard settings. Apparently you only get one 5 instead of an never ending line of them. Haven't tested ...

Re: Odd Keyboard Behavior - LM17.3 - Mate

It is not the keyboard. A number of people have the problem. It happens on the only 3 boxes here that have these keyboards, if they run 17.3. It ONLY happens on LM 17.3 as far as Linux Mint goes. No one reports the issue with anything prior to LM 17.3 that I know of. We use 17.2 specifically because...

Re: Odd Keyboard Behavior - LM17.3 - Mate

The bad news is .... :( ..... Over the past couple of days the 555555555555555555's have reappeared several times in U 16.04. Did nothing at all regarding my setup, updates, settings and system during the period to promote this problem. It just surfaced when doing a 'find' in a file open in gedit. A...

Re: systemd evil or not?

I've been doing some testing on U 16.04. Yesterday I tried (all day long) to install dnscrypt-proxy and actually get it working. Ubuntu has the systemd supported package in their repo. Previously, once dnscrypt-proxy is installed all the client has to do is change their nameserver in their network s...

Re: Odd Keyboard Behavior - LM17.3 - Mate

The good news is that Ubuntu 16.04 has logitech support in the initrd.img, the logitech keyboard works to open the encrypted container and I also have not experienced the 5555555555555555's problem at all while testing the U 16.04 install. Hopefully, this success will spill over to Mint 18 and we wo...

Re: 'Resolved' - Firefox 46.0 doesn't honor theme settings

I noticed the changes in FF46. It's very annoying when apps don't honor your system-wide settings, but mine works OK except for the scrollbar. Are you able to get your theme scrollbar? I am able to get my scrollbar with the system and all my apps ... sort of. With the Mint-X base it's too thin for ...

Re: Firefox 46.0 doesn't honor theme settings

My fix was to use the Mint-X GTK3 theme but customize it to utilize the controls and windows of my gtk2 theme, set my custom window background and selected items background colors, etc. I now have firefox utilizing my MATE theme choice. One quirk. Just because firefox utilizes the theme it does not ...

Re: Firefox 46.0 doesn't honor theme settings

Read somewhere: "GTK3 integration. Enjoy the way Firefox looks and feels on modern Linux desktops!" Looks and feels like crap on mine even when using GTK3 themes. :) Did anybody check, if this is an FF-profile issue? Did this. It's a firefox issue rather than a profile issue. I will check and see i...

'Resolved' - Firefox 46.0 doesn't honor theme settings

LM 17.2 x64 MATE What gives with firefox 46.0? No matter what system theme I use it seems to only honor what appears to be system defaults. Nothing like having a green theme with dark blue background on selected items, etc. Also bookmarks and menu bar has a slight but noticeable change in looks. Win...

Re: Odd Keyboard Behavior - LM17.3 - Mate

I just upgraded to 17.3 (from 17), and have been hit by the same repeating 5's problem. Using a logitech unifying receiver with wireless keyboard. Also using full disk encryption which required the same workaround to ensure the hid_logitech_hidpp module was in initrd so that the encryption password...
