[SOLVED] LibreOffice Base - LM 11

I've used LibreOffice Calc successfully for some time now, but I can't get the same level of performance from Base. I can input the data into the data base but LO & LM 11 won't generate a list of articles covering a particular Linux topic. I'm using LibreOffice 3.3.4 Build 401. Interestling, LibreOf...

Re: How to install BIOS update?

Mmm.... having read your suggested reference I can see why you suggest not doing a BIOS update. Maybe easier to image the HDD, reinstall XP, do the BIOS change, if in fact a change is needed, and then reinstall the HDD image. Can I determine what BIOS # is currently installed using Linux? I'm runnin...

Re: Failure to shutdown!

3 days - and all shutdowns performed normally. Early days but it's looking good - and a Firefox plug-in or similar looking like the culprit.

Will continue update and later determine which Firefox plug in or similar is the cause of the problem.

Re: Failure to shutdown!

I've removed all the plug ins etc associated with Firefox - and Linux Mint hasn't missed a shut down so far.
The kernel upgrade sounds interesting. I'll see how the Linux Mint goes with the thinned down Firefox.

Thanks AlbertP, much appreciated.

Re: Failure to shutdown!

Further to richyrich's comments on 6 Dec 2011 the syslog coincident with the time of the failures to shut are below. These shut failures were with completely blank screen. Note the power level warning prior to the 09:38:36 failed shut. Is that significant? Failure to shutdown for a restart Jan 1 09:...

Re: Failure to shutdown!

Thanks AlbertP - followed your advise - but no upgradeable kernel headers or headers available. Package Manager shows installed versions are the latest which are 2.6.38-13.53. Is this the latest kernel for Linux Mint 11? Other Linux distros are running 3.0.... kernel! The Update Manager indicates pa...

Re: Failure to shutdown!

Failures to shut down appears to be occurring more frequent.

I've dual booted with Fedora 16 to see if the shut down issue is a machine problem or Linux Mint 11 and to date Fedora 16 it hasn't missed a beet, all shuts occurred normally. Still early days ......

Re: Failure to shutdown!

At last. PC failed to shut down - no text on the screen of shut down process which is usually normal. No flashing cursor, nothing. Keyboard not active.
Ctrl+Alt+F1 then Ctrl+Alt+F7 - no effect.
Esc no effect.
Screen remains blank.

Where to from here? :?:

Re: Failure to shutdown!

Amazing! Since I posted this issue it hasn't occurred since - but have had 2 shut downs without the sequence appearing as text on the screen.
Am all set to follow the suggestions made and to record all the details when the next failure to shut down occurs.

Re: Failure to shutdown!

Thanks for your reply Richy. Screen is blank. Next time it occurs I shall try your suggestion to see if I can get the GUI back - and keep you informed. I usually shut down all programs before I log off (shut down).

Thanks jbh :) :)

[SOLVED] Seeking a Banner package

I'm looking for a banner package that will produce a horizontal running banner, either as a screen saver or a separate window.
I'm running Linux Mint 11 Gnome.

Is there a list in existance that shows common software names vs Linux package names?

Any suggestions?

:)
