Re: Looking for backup software?

I recently purchased a external USB disk for regular (local) backups. I started to use backintime as a backup client. Has a nice GUI to define you backups. You can define different profiles for example to schedule the backups of different partitions at different time. It does incremental backups, le...

Re: Documents folder.

open a terminal and do:

Code: Select all

cd Desktop
ln -s ../Documents
Items in the folder Desktop are shown there. ln -s creates a link in the current location to ../Documents which should be your Documents folder. If not, subsitute ../Documents with the proper path.

Cheers!

Re: Office,Wine, LIbre [SOLVED][OP UPDATE]

Glad you found a solution that works for you, scrognoid! I'm a crossover user since many years and (as I mentioned before) don't need to use any native windows for the standard office applications anymore. Once you are a customer of codeweavers, you typically get special offers for extending your "l...

Re: I love LMDE!

Me, too! :)

I came from Ubuntu to Mint to LMDE, strolled away to SolydX (with gnome-shell) for some time before UP7 but I'm back at LMDE (no hopping at all during the last month!)

This is a great distro! Love it!

Re: IDLE/Python 2.7 Problem

Hi, I think, what you try to do is executing these multiple lines in one go in the python shell. But the shell will only take one line at a time (and probably ignores the rest). So the solution would be to paste one line at a time, or do - File -> New File - copy your multiple print statements in th...

Re: No audio through HDMI ?

Hi,

I had the same problem, that audio was not passed through HDMI.

For me it was enough to install pulse-audio-volume-control, go to the configuration tab there and select an HDMI profile.

Cheers!

Re: Export playlist with rygel to DLNA device

I didn't make any progress on this issue with rygel :( But xbmc works nicely for streaming to my Onkyo AVR. Rygel has issues with using the "Artist" tags as well - at least for me. xbmc imports my banshee exported playlists (even though I have to update the path in the .m3u file) and streams to the ...

Export playlist with rygel to DLNA device

Dear all, did anybody manage to export playlists via rygel to your home network to use them on a DLNA device? I exported playlists from banshee to all formats known to banshee (.m3u, .pls and .xspf) and added the path as URI to rygel.conf uris=/home/wichmann/data/Movies;/home/wichmann/data/Music/mp3...

Re: Unable to connect Android devices to Mint 16 Petra

There is also the possibilty to install an ssh server like SSHdroid on your phone and then just ssh to it from your Mint box. You can even mount the phone as filesystem via sshfs. I did that some time ago. Sort of worked but was not very reliable.

Re: Unable to connect Android devices to Mint 16 Petra

I'm not sure if you would actually be able to access the internal memory with MTP?!

I don't think so, but I might be wrong.

Cheers!

Re: Unable to connect Android devices to Mint 16 Petra

Why do you want to use MTP? In my experience it's (at least under linux) much slower than using it just as an USB medium. And you can access you media files on the phone as well using the mass storage connection. in my (oldish) Xperia Neo you go to Setting -> Xperia -> Connectivity -> USB Connection...

Re: Running out of DISK Space on SSD

I suppose, those missing video files / folders don't have a . as the first character of the filename? If yes, they would not be shown in Nemo by default, but you can toggle hidden folders visibility by hitting CTRL-h in the Nemo window. Other then that I would assume Nemo and terminal should show th...

Re: Running out of DISK Space on SSD

Glad we could help and you figured it out. In the folder Video I have some movies which are only visible in terminal and not in GUI Video folder. So the size of the folder is actually correct. Now I just need to figure why are they not showing in Video GUI folder. What do you mean by "Video GUI fold...

Re: Running out of DISK Space on SSD

Is /dev/sda the only disk on your system, so do you have everything (/, /home, /opt, /boot, ....) that 1 partition /dev/sda1? Is so, the disk usage does not look to unusual. You can drill down on teh usage of the different directories on / to figure out where the big chucks are by: cd / sudo du -sh ...

Re: My install is perfect...how do I keep it that way?

Great! Glad I could give you some ideas. One thing one should keep in mind: with sharing /home and therefore your users configs, you may potentially run into problems when running (very) different versions of the same program / DE etc, because configs, database formats or such things may change betw...

Re: My install is perfect...how do I keep it that way?

Hi, on / I keep back-up copies of the (system) files I edited by hand. In my case that includes: /etc/fstab /etc/psd.conf (profile-sync-damon to keep browser profiles in ram instead of on disk) /etc/sudoers /var/spool/cron/crontabs/$USER But, as I mentioned, if you didn't fiddle with them, no need t...

Re: UP8 breaks network-manager-vpnc

hmm, I thought we were closer, but:

nm-applet is not started under gnome-shell either, yet vpnc connections work. Must be something more subtle then :(

But, hey, look at the bright side, a workaround is there :)
