Re: UP8 breaks network-manager-vpnc

Interesting observation, danh! I c an actually confirm that. Even though the network-manager service is running (sorry, I have my system converted to systemd) and the nm icon is in the panel and seems to work properly, it's not actually nm-applet. I started nm-applet and the vpnc connection was made...

Re: Is LightDM working with Cinnamon 2

I assumed c.monty wanted to compare results :)

@c.monty: Anyway, forgot to answer one part of the request: I didn't touch any configs. I just installed lightdm and set it as default. Otherwise it's just as it comes out of the repos.

Re: Is LightDM working with Cinnamon 2

I'm running lightdm with cinnamon 2.0.14 just fine. As far I can remember, I just installed it via Synaptic without doing anything special. Do you have any other DM installed, like gdm or mdm? You might have to configure lightdm as the default DM: sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm and then select lightd...

Re: UP8 breaks network-manager-vpnc

Hi, I have the same problem with network-manager-vpnc as described above: password fields are empty and vpnc does not connect. However, it must have something to do with the interplay of Cinnamon and and NM. I have gnome-shell and C installed and under gnome-shell there is no problem with vpnc. Chee...

Re: Switch system controls shortcut

Posted a bit too early. What I want can be achieved using dconf-editor.

Under org -> cinnamon -> muffin -> keybindings switch the Value for "switch-panels" and "switch-windows".

[Solved] Switch system controls shortcut

Dear all, I'm using the coverflow extension to cycle through the application windows. However, I'd like to use ALT-TAB for all windows (not just the ones on the current workspace). Apparently, the extension uses the keybinding for "Cycle through open windows" (current desktop) and "Switch or cycle s...

Re: using gnome-shell and cinnamon on same install?

Thanks, Monsta, dor pointing that out. Could have figured that out myself, I guess :) Well, it works. I just removed gnome-desktop-data after seeing gnome3-desktop-data was installed. All worked after that, so cinnamon installed and is running flawlessly.

Cheers!

[SOLVED] using gnome-shell and cinnamon on same install?

Hi, as you can see from my signature, I'm a gnome guy and do like gnome-shell. But I also like to try some other things for some time. With cinnamon having arrived in version 2 with UP8 now, I thought I will give it a spin again. However, it wants to remove "gnome-desktop-data". From the package des...

Re: Ghost Window on Screen

I had a similar issue some time ago on Cinnamon. If it's the same, it's enough to restart the window manager by ALT-F2 "r".

I managed to get rid of those artefact by turning of the fade effect:

Re: Laptop's monitor STUCK on full-brightness, very hard to

maybe you need to have acpi-support installed?

Searching for "brightness" in Synaptic I get that plus gnome-control-center and gnome-power-manager. But then, I run LMDE with the Gnome 3.8 desktop ...
Other than that I can't help you much more, I'm afraid! :(

Re: Laptop's monitor STUCK on full-brightness, very hard to

hmm, check you keyboard and see if you have a sun or light symbol with an up and down arrow on any of the keys, respectively, which you can hit in conjunction with the Fn key.

That's the laptop you are using?

Re: Laptop's monitor STUCK on full-brightness, very hard to

Fn+Cursor-down should lower the brightness of your screen, Fn+Cursor-up increase it again. Mine also comes up in full brightness since some time, even on battery. That's kind of annoying. Having figured out yet, how to tell it to remember / obey the brightness settings in the power manager. Cheers &...

Re: Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse battery warning

I hope, UP8 will fix it. SolydX is based on a newer snaptshot of Debian testing than LMDE UP7, so let's see.

Re: Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse battery warning

Sorry, can't add much except I have the same problem with the Logitech K340 keyboard under LMDE UP7. The battery level of the corresponding mouse is read correctly.

Interesting enough, SolydX (with Gnome) reads the both mouse and keyboard levels correctly. Must be some subtle difference.

Yeah, indeed lurking is good :)

I'm running LMDE UP7 with Gnome 3.8.4 from the unstable repos of Debian. Rock solid as far as I'm concerned !

Just wanted to let you know, you are not the only one! :)

Re: minidlna - works localy but can't see via dlna clients?

Hi,

did you open TCP port 8200 and UDP port 1900 on your firewall? I suppose ufw is active!? You can easily open allow incoming traffic on those ports using the GUI gufw for the firewall.

The minidnla.conf looks file.

Cheers!

Hi there,

I replaced my spinning HD with a SSD not to long ago. Here are the steps I did after some extensive web research:
