Re: problem installing UFW

Ah... but if you remove the file from /etc/init.d, it won't start automatically. That's OK. I don't intend to start it automatically anyway but launch it from the terminal when I actually want to use it. So I think for me this work-around will do, but of course it's not really a solution, so I don'...

problem installing UFW

Hi all,

I try to install ufw but get the following error in synaptics:

E: ufw: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

It seems to be installed but not configured.

Any hints? Thanks!

Re: LMDE release date?

Not quite, since incoming is still based on a given snapshot of debian testing, therefore so not quite so "unstable" :)

Good luck, Riko

Re: LMDE release date?

Edit: Now that I think of it, replacing repositories with incoming ones should give me a (somewhat?) working LMDE around the end of this month. I don't mind minor bugs but... Good idea? Bad idea? I don't think is an answer to good or bad :) Depends on how much you are willing to struggle to get bac...

Re: LMDE release date?

http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2503: Work is starting on LMDE UP8. We’re expecting it to hit “incoming” before Christmas. which probably means a release in Jan/Feb 2014 was a good estimate. I find LMDE a rock-solid distro. I ventured away a few times to try something new (including SolydX) ...

Re: Startpar: Service(s) returned failure: plymouth ... fail

Only input I can give is that I see the same message when shutting down my machine. Did some googling but did not come up with a solution. Since as you pointed out, too, there seems not really to be any issue with this as far as running the computer is concerned, I stopped worrying about it and just...

Re: change udev permissions on boot

hmm, seems like /dev/shm is not actually created by udev but via /lib/init/mount-functions.sh and /lib/init/tmpfs.sh If I understood those scripts correctly, they first check if an entry for /dev/shm exists in /etc/fstab. If not, the device is created with hard-coded permissions 755. So I guess, put...

Re: change udev permissions on boot

Thanks, Gene, for the link. That looks a bit more complicated than I had hoped for but oh well, you'll always learn. I need to find some time to go through that and will post back and the final result.

Cheers, Riko

[solved] changing /dev/shm permissions on boot

-- sorry if this is a double post, but I can't find the one I just wrote ... maybe hit cancel?! --- Where do I define which permissions devices created via udev are getting? I need to change the permissions of /dev/shm on boot so that the profile-sync-daemon is working. Of course I could work-around...

Re: shutdown, restart from GDM doesn't work

Those entries work when using systemd as service startup system. I had to switch to make suspend-on-lid-closed work and discovered that the restart/shutdown entries started to work again on the GDM3 login screen.

CrossOver says it's $60 for full version though =/ other than that, it looks awesome! Yeah, sorry. Forgot they changed their licencing model a while back. There used to be a personal and a pro version. The personal was 39$ I think. Now the merged. My boss is paying, so I don't care too much :) Plus...

Re: Office,Wine, LIbre

Thanks EmpireITtech! Nice input Riko! Yes, with today's wonderful world of VMs and RDP/VNC and Citrix-type thin clients , it's not too hard to go Linux with only the tools you need from Windows to be productive. Heck Google has about half their work force on an offshoot of Ubuntu - Goobuntu =] - tha...

Re: Office,Wine, LIbre

Hi, some input from my side, too. I haven't use MS Office with vanilla wine since a few years. When I tried I failed. However, since several years, I'm using the commercial branch (Codeweavers CXoffice) to run MS Office 2003, then 2007 and now 2010. My work environment is Windows dominated and Word,...

[Solved] shutdown, restart from GDM doesn't work

Hi all, I have Gnome 3.8 installed from Debian Sid. Most of that runs just fine, however I have a problem with the login screen of gdm. When I run my machine at work, it sits in a docking station with a wireless mouse and keyboard connected. Often, the keyboard will not connect on boot to gdm (does ...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Gnome-Shell 3.8 is now in Sid. Tweaktool has not yet been updated but will now doubt transition soon. You can manually install tweak tool 3.8 from experimental as it is only one small file. But - it has a bug, at least on my machine. Every time I try to open Applications All the shell crashes. I tr...

Re: start VM using gnome-schedule

to be honest, I don't understand what is going on. But, again, I never used gnome-schedule. From my point of view, your 1) should. When I want to run task regularly, I use cron directly. Nothing else gnome-schedule seems to be doing except there is a wrapper in between. The cron jobs are managed thr...
