Re: Windows will not detect my LXM partition

Don't take this the wrong way, but ... why would you want Windows to be able to see your Linux partition? Seems to me that that would not be a good idea. If all you want is to be able to share data files between your Windows and your Linux, there are better ways of doing that. One option would be to...

Re: Mint 7 (Gloria) WEP WPA WPA2 nightmare

Forgive me if I'm suggesting something you've already tried, but have you checked out this wiki?

http://www.linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php/MintWifi

I wish I could help more specifically, but Mint wireless has always worked absolutely flawlessly for me, with less hassle than Windows....

Re: cant play any games

Just a thought--have you actually installed the proprietary ATI driver, or are you still working with the nonproprietary one, which I believe is the default at install? It may work better with the proprietary driver.

Re: startup manager won't run

Try this: Finally figured out how to launch Startup Manager from mintMenu. The menu item as installed attempts to use the command "su-to-root -X -c /usr/sbin/startupmanager" The command must be changed to "gksu -c /usr/sbin/startupmanager". To do this : Right Click Menu > Edit M...

Re: how do you do a fresh install?

I'm nowhere near as smart about Linux as FedoraRefugee, Lantesh, and many others, but here's what's worked for me: three partitions--swap, /, and /Data, the last of which I mount in /home (/home/{me}/Data). When I moved from Felicia to Gloria, I made a list of all the extra programs I'd installed (s...

Re: From Ubuntu to Mint. Should I backup all data?

To do what you say you want to do, yes, you will have to back up your data. It's tedious, but necessary. To save yourself some trouble next time, you might want to make a separate data partition when you install Mint. That way, you can do additional installs or reinstalls without having to either ba...

Re: ext4 killed my data

@ rlindsey0: I have in fact lots of partitions for different purposes: Linux / Linux /home (the biggest partition, therefore also storage for Windows) Thats the problem right there. Your /home need not, ought not, should not, also be your shared storage location. Oh, and for the record: ext4 did no...

Re: ext4 killed my data

b.) I cannot use a NTFS drive as /home (as far as I know) But, with respect, surely you could have created a /data partition in NTFS that both Linux and Windows could have had access to? I'm not as expert as many here, but that strikes me as a better idea. It's really only data that you want both O...

Re: Is this a record?

When Felicia was released there was some grumbling because Open Office 3.0 - released last October - wasn't included. Some of us installed it nevertheless. This morning, Open Office Foundaton announced the release of OO 3.1 - and shortly afterwards Mint Update presented it as a recommended update! ...

Re: Linux Mint 7 "Gloria" released!

Well, I've been on board since Daryna, and to me this seems like the best release yet. Everything happens as quickly as or more quickly than it ever has. More to the point, just about everything seems to work--I can't find anything I really need that doesn't work right at the install. The last coupl...

Re: Halp!!! CPU panic!!!

Twice now over the last seven days, my laptop has suddenly and out of nowhere started to bog down severely. When I run sys monitor, it will show that one of the two cores will be running at or near 100%, and alternate over from moment to moment between cpu1 and cpu2....but when I check processes, n...

Re: HP Photosmart C5280 Scanner Not Working with Mint 6

I have that same unit, and it works fine for me with Mint 5 and 6. I did have a problem with scanning at first, but I've forgotten the details. What I know works for me now is this: install XSane, then control the scanning function from within that (I don't think scanning works if you try to scan us...

Go to the "Download Mint 6" page. It's right there, near the top.

Re: Help! Cannot understand my disk usage

Just a thought--could this be a matter of reserved space in my bootable partition? I read somewhere that when an ext2/3 filesystem is set up, some percentage of it is set aside as reserved space, so that there's room to run critical commands should space get tight. And that this is only really usefu...

Re: Internet Browser Covers Tool Bar when Opened

I had something like that, and if I recall, reinstalling FF (if you have the most current version) or installing the most current version (if you don't have it), then rebooting to make sure, solved the problem. For me anyway; I haven't had that issue in months.

Re: Help! Cannot understand my disk usage

Couple of things. Run df-h in a terminal and see what that says and secondly use the gparted live cd to do a disk check on the partitions you think are wrong (right click the partition and select 'check') They shouldn't be mounted from a live cd but if they are unmount them first. Tried both of tho...

Re: Help! Cannot understand my disk usage

The trash was emptied before I did this, I ran autoremove and clean in Terminal, I deleted some hidden folders in /home for some programs I'd removed, and I have less than 1 GB of stuff downloaded. Have you compiled anything? Compiler logs can get massive. Logfiles in general can get massive, occas...
