Re: LibraOffice Writer - how the heck to get it to do what I want (text boxes)?

This doesn't happen very often. I think I can add to a thread. I was intrigued enough to open LibreOffice, and add a text box to a document. Typed in it and when I clicked outside the box it disappeared. Click inside where the box was and it was still there. When inside the text box a second menu ba...

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140

I stumbled on this thread recently, and realised that the desktop I had forgotten to turn off several days previously could have been doing some useful work instead of sitting idle. Folding at Home seems to be a valuable and worthwhile project to support, so I've installed the program and it's been ...

Re: Can't get Linux Mint to see AXE027 picaxe cable

Hello Jackflash I can't add too much to this conversation, but I am uniquely qualified to ask stupid questions. Please don't be offended by this one. In your first post you say that you followed the instructions from the picaxe site to the letter. The last line of code is sudo adduser your_name dial...

Re: Nemo 3.4.7 doesnt open a specific folder

Hello Leperchaun If I read your inxi information correctly you have installed Mint on your drive sdc. I'm guessing that your games are on one of the other drives listed in inxi. If that's correct you'll need to mount the drive with the games in before you can navigate to your games. It may be that t...

Re: No Ethernet Connection, Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64 bit

Well you learn something new every day. And today I've learnt that I don't know as much as I thought I did. So I think I have to withdraw from this thread until I learn some more. As an aside, I find that I sometimes get the same symptoms as you on my desktop. It's connected through a 4way switch to...

Re: No Ethernet Connection, Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64 bit

The router on my system has an address of 192.168.1.254 Same as your DNS setting. I used to have a router with the address 192.168.1.1 Same as your IP route response. The two settings are I think incompatible. The gateway and the DNS should be the same if they are coming from your Modem/Router. And ...

Re: OS freezes when i close my laptop

My Lenovo Ideapad on 17.3 xfce does that too if I set it to suspend on shutting the lid. If I set it to Do Nothing it works perfectly. I don't know why, and lack the motivation to investigate. Perhaps it would work for you too.

Re: A Newb in distress. Assistance is seeked.

Hello Bthomp. I've read your post several times, and I don't see anywhere that you've installed any version of Linux. If you have then some information about what you have done would help others to help you. And if you find Terminal in your menu type in the command inxi -Fxz this will print out syst...

Re: Is there a WiFi switcher in Xfce?

Hello NoSalt. I'm afraid I can't help you further as I don't know how your overlay of MATE works, someone else may pop up to advise. But I think it would be worth you considering downloading a fresh LM17.1 xfce 64bit iso from here - https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=182 and trying it as a live DV...

Re: Is there a WiFi switcher in Xfce?

Hello NoSalt. I don't know how you got your installation of XFCE, but it seems it's different to all of mine. The xfce-goodies package I have never used, and I only found it by searching for Wavelan. I found xfce-goodies here - https://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/xfce4-goodies At the botto...

Re: Is there a WiFi switcher in Xfce?

When I left click my Wi-Fi icon i get exactly the same pop-up screen as you are seeing in MATE. Same on all 4 of my machines. Wavelan Plugin?? where did that come from? Have you installed the XFCE-Goodies package? Perhaps you could try without the plug-in and prove it all works as you like, then re-...

Re: Is there a WiFi switcher in Xfce?

If I roll over the icon in my XFCE it shows WIfi name and strength. If I left click it opens a dialogue box that shows all the WiFi signals available around me. Does yours not do that ? Right click on the icon allows me to edit the connections

Re: "Laufwerke" ("Drives"?) vs. Gparted

There have been posts elsewhere on this forum that using Disks can cause problems.I've never used it as a result. Gparted is reliable. It's on the install disc so you could format the second disc running from your install disc. I always download it to my installations, except when they are for other...

This sometimes happens on my lappy when I'm running a live session from USB or DVD. It doesn't happen when Mint is installed. Are you on a live session?

Re: RESOLVED Lenovo Flex 10 - Did I make a mistake in buying?

Well that went well. I needn't have worried. All the work arounds are for dual boot UEFI installs, but I only ever intended a LM only install. With a new SSD formatted with separate / and /home partitions booting in legacy mode my new toy is running LM18 Cinnamon 64bit with no problems so far. About...

Re: Lenovo Flex 10 - Did I make a mistake in buying?

Deepakdesph you have grasped the problem correctly. I was so confident that 'It will just work' that I didn't imagine it may not, or be difficult to accomplish. I will of course run a liveUSB prior to installation, and I've no intention of running Dual boot with Windows.

RESOLVED Lenovo Flex 10 - Did I make a mistake in buying?

I may have done a silly thing. I liked the look of the Lenovo Flex 10 so have ordered one, in the sure and certain knowledge that I would fit an SSD and put LinuxMint (17.3 XFCE for preference) on it as soon as it arrived. That should be in the next few days. Then I looked at what other people have ...
