Re: SOLVED Menulibre altered now I can't get back

Absolutely correct MDM. I chose to not even suggest that as an option for him for two reasons. First I didn't want to LinuxMint to be a closed box for him, I wanted him to treat it as something he could play with and explore, and even break, and at least have a go at getting back out of the hole he ...

Re: SOLVED Menulibre altered now I can't get back

And just for completeness, my brother phoned tonight. We deleted the same folder in /home/***/.local/share/desktop-directories/xfce-accessories and now he has his Accessories category back too. I'm actually quite impressed that with no linux experience, and working all on his own, he managed to brea...

Re: SOLVED Menulibre altered now I can't get back

Woo Hoo. Sorted. Trytip, I did what you suggested, but no change. The directory was rebuild on restart but the problem remained the same. When I modified the Start (Whisker) Menu with MenuLibreto hide the Accessories category it changed the location shown at the bottom of the Menulibre page to a new...

Re: menulibre altered now I can't get back to normal

I found this thread viewtopic.php?t=160784 about modifying the whisker menu. It seems to be regularly updated. I'll read and digest the contents

Re: menulibre altered now I can't get back to normal

Thankyou MDM. There was nothing in /home/...../merged. I had a look in /etc/xdg/.... and the entry for the Accessories category looks different to all the others. I've got to drop this until this evening, and at that time I think I'll fire up another instance of LM17.3 from USB on another machine an...

Re: menulibre altered now I can't get back to normal

Thankyou MDM. I like your way of thinking. I've checked and there were only two applications set to hide from menus. I set them to not hide and restarted but the Accessories category is still not showing.
I'll leave the changes I made in place until I find the answer to the posted problem.

SOLVED Menulibre altered now I can't get back

Hello My lenovo G575 laptop is running LM 17.3 xfce 64bit. I've been so happy with it that I also put it on the Asus laptop belonging to my brother, who lives 300mile away. When doing a support call from him recently (about his printer, nothing to do with this query), he was describing what he could...

Re: No WIFI, like others

My apologies for butting in here, as I've no idea how to sort your particular problem, but I do notice that in a post a few above this you mention that you are using more than one terminal. And in a post a few more above that you show that you have performed the action cd Desktop - changed your curr...

Re: Is there an inexpensive printer to work with mint ?

Mint 16? Really? I would suggest you update to one of the 17. issues, or perhaps 18. Or the other Long Term Support issue, 13. LM16 is obsolete and you can't get updates.

Edit - Oops Sorry Moem, didn't read your post carefully enough.

Re: An Introduction

I got half way through the EDX course before the rest of my life took over. I enjoyed what I did, and it's a good grounding with an insight into differences in the major distributions. I don't need certification as I'm way past employment, but it's good to know it's available if it helps in your wor...

Re: Mint 17.3 Xfce Whiskermenu problem

LinuxFreak - Mine is the same. Click on logout and another box pops up with the options to logout restart shutdown. So shutdown is available. Are you asking for a shutdown button direct on the menu in addition to the popup menu? I've no idea if it's possible, and it doesn't worry me as I've put a sh...

Re: Mint Hack Donation thread!

You really know what you've got when it's gone. I've been lost the last few days of no forum to follow. If my donation helps to keep Mint going it will be money well spent. Thankyou to Clem and all his little elves. I have been so impressed by Clem's postings on the blog over the last few days, up t...

Re: Fun!Cam drivers

If you haven't done so already just plug it in and see what happens. It'll probably just work. You'll need some app that can take the output from the camera, if you just want to check it works Cheese is a simple one, or if you've already got VLC installed you have the option Open Capture Device unde...

Re: HP LaserJet P1102w - Error 5012

Thankyou Ron-N. I upgraded to 17.2 xfce and found my 1102w wouldn't install (the HP installer couldn't find my or any wireless network). I've spent a day and a half looking for a solution, then downgraded to 17.1xfce as that is alleged to be supported but the installer failed in the same way. The fi...

Re: SOLVED Too much sound when playing Youtube videos

Well it took a while, but the answer was to disable the Youtube-HTML5-Video extension. So far that is preventing the doubling of the audio track on affected clips without altering the response on others. If something else fails to work now at least I'll know what to reinstate.

SOLVED Too much sound when playing Youtube videos

Running LM17.2 Mate 64 on my laptop. When playing some Youtube videos in Firefox I sometimes get two or more sound tracks playing, one in sync with the video and others not . Here's one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtOoeDPc9uI In the Applications tab in Sound Preferences they are usually shown as...

Problem 1 sounds like it could be resolved with a couple of powerline adaptors. They don't care what OS you are using.

Re: A Linux Mint Electric Fireplace

Well done you. My daughter will soon be moving to a new house soon that has some unused fire surrounds. And I've got a few unused screens. I wonder if I can convince her it would be a good idea to combine the two.
