Re: Fun!Cam drivers

If you haven't done so already just plug it in and see what happens. It'll probably just work. You'll need some app that can take the output from the camera, if you just want to check it works Cheese is a simple one, or if you've already got VLC installed you have the option Open Capture Device unde...

Re: HP LaserJet P1102w - Error 5012

Thankyou Ron-N. I upgraded to 17.2 xfce and found my 1102w wouldn't install (the HP installer couldn't find my or any wireless network). I've spent a day and a half looking for a solution, then downgraded to 17.1xfce as that is alleged to be supported but the installer failed in the same way. The fi...

Re: SOLVED Too much sound when playing Youtube videos

Well it took a while, but the answer was to disable the Youtube-HTML5-Video extension. So far that is preventing the doubling of the audio track on affected clips without altering the response on others. If something else fails to work now at least I'll know what to reinstate.

SOLVED Too much sound when playing Youtube videos

Running LM17.2 Mate 64 on my laptop. When playing some Youtube videos in Firefox I sometimes get two or more sound tracks playing, one in sync with the video and others not . Here's one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtOoeDPc9uI In the Applications tab in Sound Preferences they are usually shown as...

Re: A new newbie to the scene.

Problem 1 sounds like it could be resolved with a couple of powerline adaptors. They don't care what OS you are using.

Re: A Linux Mint Electric Fireplace

Well done you. My daughter will soon be moving to a new house soon that has some unused fire surrounds. And I've got a few unused screens. I wonder if I can convince her it would be a good idea to combine the two.

Re: How to change primary display with no acces to it..

Can you borrow another computer and use ssh to access your screenless laptop? The primary display will then be on the borrowed machine and you may be able to make the second display the primary.

Re: Newieb HTPC question

I've been fiddling around with streaming tv programmes and films I've stored on a networked hard drive. It's a bit complicated as the programme files are stored in an unusual format. I discovered that you can do it direct from LinuxMint if you install VLC (from the software manager) and play the fil...

Re: Mutltiple users - What should I see in /home?

Thanks all As usually happens I can't find the answer I need, so I post a query. Then try searching using a different approach and get where I need. What I found is what you all said. I can hide the admin folder, but then I won't be able to see it when logged in as admin. I can reference the admin f...

Solved - Mutltiple users - What should I see in /home?

I'm setting up some recycled PC's for a local pre-school with LM17 Mate. I've been asked to provide an Admin account for the Head Teacher, and a restricted account for the staff to do their daily recording. Head is to have access to staff files, but staff do not have access to Heads files. I've got ...

I've found that map detail was improved by changing to the Classic version. I recall that there was a click on tab at the bottom of the screen. I can't see that tab to confirm now of course.

Must learn to type faster, Karlchen has said all I had typed before I could submit. One additional tip. If you still have the terminal open, then pressing the up arrow key will take you back to the previous command you typed. Use the left hand arrow to navigate to the start of the line and type sudo...

Re: Precise repository failure on Mint 13 Maya

Well that's a surprise, after another reboot updating is working without error, and I have the green tick back. Must have been the drivers for my brother-in-laws Canon printer that I was trying to access wirelessly last week, just for the fun of finding out how to do it. Hopefully Phoenix1963 will f...

Re: Precise repository failure on Mint 13 Maya

I've been stumbling around in the dark here, and removed i386 packages for the Canon printer I played with recently, and the one that I've had installed for some time. No change in the error messages. I thought I was onto something when I went looking at the repository and saw the Packages file ther...

Cant help with a solution, but I can confirm that you are not alone. I'm running LM13 Cinnamon 64bit on my laptop, and get the red cross in the update manager icon. When I update I get this error message Err http://archive.ubuntu.com precise/universe i386 Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.91.24 80]...

Re: Bootloader insatll failed, no big deal, right?

Welcome to the club WolfenHammer. I did exactly the same last week on an install for a friend. On a dual boot with XP put the boot loader somewhere that boot couldn't see it, and like you was too quick to press the CD eject button so it closed again straight away and stayed closed. I had to shut dow...

Thanks guys, That went better than I expected. Copied off files to be retained, Deleted all the temp files and similar logs. Emptied trash. Defragged. Resized Windows C drive with gparted, restarted and let Windows do its checks. Added a D drive in windows and put the My Documents folder in there. I...
