Re: Mint XFCE crashes when running on battery thinkpad

Hello, inkswinc. My thinkpad edge crashes within 5 minutes of booting (at seemingly random times) whenever it's not plugged in. Can you be a bit more specific about what crash means? Do you get any error messages? The machine simple shuts down? Keyboard and mouse stop responding? What are the typica...

Re: Dual Boot System

Hello, grasshoppa. tried to install this OS. Could you be a bit more specific, please. We know you are talking about Linux Mint 13. Yet, it comes in a number of different flavours. Which Linux Mint 13 edition are you trying to install? + 32-bit? / 64-bit? + Cinnamon desktop, Mate desktop, Xfce deskt...

Re: how to uninstall grub and linuxmint?

Hello, caf4926.
Trouble is Karl, most people don't have a windows DVD
I am afraid you are right. Therefore pointing them to the recovery CD as you have done is smarter.

Cheers,
Karl

Hi, greenman-23. Nice to read the problem was not as bad as assumed and that you have already solved it. :) About installing Opera on Linux Mint: On a Linux machine where there is no Opera, yet, I always download Opera from their homepage. They realize I am on a Debian based system and give me the a...

Re: how to uninstall grub and linuxmint?

Caf4926,

you beat me by a few minutes. :) Was just going to suggest following this instruction: Windows 7 - MBR - Restore Windows 7 Master Boot Record. Same approach, just longer and with screenshots.

Re: how to uninstall grub and linuxmint?

Hello, newbie_noob. As you are going to return the whole machine to the store, you may wish to consult the machine manual. It should hold a step by step instruction on how to return the installed software to the state it had when you bought it. This means there will be some (easy) way of resetting t...

Re: Live USB Stick doesn't work when installing software

Hello, jangxx. The live system is more generic with respect to specific hardware. Hm. This seems to be a contradiction in itself. And to some extent it is. The live system does not use any vendor specific hardware drivers, only open source drivers. In particular with respect to graphics cards the up...

Re: Livesystem erkennt im Installer Partitionen nicht

Hallo, telegott.

Re: install over redundant os?

Hello, biffer. The message 'Kernel panic. not syncing: UFS. unable to mount root fs on unknown block (0,0)' seems to suggest that you have written something to the boot sector of /dev/sda3 which PCLinuxOS does not really like, nor understand. I admit that I have never tried PCLinuxOS. So I am in no ...

Re: LMDE display physically painful (XFCE, MATE, Cinnamon)

Hello, alkalyzer
The display (on LCD screens) simply hurts my eyes
Care to explain which details exactly there are that hurt your eyes?
You might post a screenshot which illustrates what your screen looks like and explain what exactly it is that hurts your eyes.

Kind regards,
Karl

Hello, teatime. The latest kernel v3.2.0.30 is available for users of Linux Mint 13 as it is for users of Ubuntu 12.04. So Linux Mint is not behind Ubuntu 12.04 by design. Re: Enable LM13 to switch user

Hello, SteveWright. It seems to be a widely spread misunderstanding that the switch user functionality which allows you to open a second (Cinnamon) desktop without logging off from the first desktop has been removed from Linux Mint 13. Good news: It has not been removed. :) Open the Mint Menu. Go to...
