Re: How to load files from Desktop Volume

Hello, Confused-2. This older post of yours reminds me of this thread, which you opened 2 days later: How to access USB storage devices from Wine? In case they are not identical, they are closely related. Right? Note: The drive letters c: and z: (not :C and :Z), which you will see inside Windows app...

Re: Adobe flashplayer doesn't work

Hello, ken_innis. Frankly speaking, from your initial post it is not really possible to understand what the problem is or the problem cause. Hence it is unlikely that anyone can offer a solution for whatever the problem really is. It would have been wise to let us know which Flash version(s) are ins...

Re: "Enter your password to move your mouse"

Hi, RasterBaitin. Why is it that precisely the absolute Linux newbies have to complain in the most ridiculous form (total hyperbole: "Enter your password to move your mouse"), because by default Linux Mint has been configured to ask you to enter your password, before permitting you to run any comman...

Re: how to make Quora to stop show adult pictures on their home page?

For those, who like me did not remember what Quora was: Quora Sadly Quora servers got hacked in Dec. 2018 and alledgedly 100 million user accounts got compromised. Cf. Quora, the Q. and A. Site, Says Data Breach Affected 100 Million Users . This might be one reason why you may be greeted by content ...

Re: questions ? regarding first post to boards need help

Hello, newnewbe. i posted a topic [...] and got no reply. Hm. Well. Such things happen. Not your fault. Sometimes new threads do not receive a first reply within a timely fashion and start dropping down in the list of unanswered posts. Cf. unanswered topics . In such a case, you should wait for roug...

On a side note, how did you post just that part of the website that shows the Windows CertUtil section? You want to know how to post a link to a specific message / post, which is located in the middle of a long thread? Let use stick to gm10's post as an example: You navigate to the thread first: ht...

Re: How to access USB storage devices from Wine?

Hello, Confused-2. ..Do I "see" (with this Linux system) the USB adaptor device plugged into it that contains data (for an W x64 program installed with Wine) ? The USB device is shown as /media/jose/0123-4567 but I can't seem to direct the program that requires it to it with my Windows expertise! Wi...

Re: Running mint from 1 Terabyte USB stick

/boot isn't just for booting - but essential like /root ? No, /boot and /root are totally different things. First of all, /root is not the root filesystem. The root filesystem is mounted as slash only / . Sub-directory /root is the home directory of the Linux superuser root. The directory /boot hol...

Re: Cannot Verify ISO

Hello, Starkman. You are not the first user, who finds out that the verification process can be really tedious, in case you try to do it on Windows. The reason is that unlike on Linux on Windows not all needed commands are readily available and preinstalled. Please, have a look at this thread, "Veri...

Re: Start-up-time more than fivefold ! Why ?

Hi, Vilsen. Would you please do as asked by smurphos above ? Please, post the output of the terminal commands: inxi -Fxxxz systemd-analyze systemd-analyze blame My hypothesis, why your system startup times have grown from 9 seconds (Mint 17.x) to 45 sec. (Mint 19.x), is that systemd may waste substa...

I don't want to install to my laptop, but I have a bootable USB stick which works just fine.
Does this mean that you are running the Linux Mint live system only?

Re: Running mint from 1 Terabyte USB stick

Does the first installer option on how to install, "Erase disk and install Linux Mint", not default to using the LVM (logical volume manager) in order to create logical volumens for / and /home and swap (in case you decide to create a swap partition)? In this case you would need a separate /boot fil...

Re: Running mint from 1 Terabyte USB stick

Hi, johan285. I cannot give any advice on potential problems, which may occur, when using a 1 TB USB pendrive. I do not have such a pendrive. Yet I can assure you that a dedicated /boot filesystem, which has got only 300 MB of total filesystem space, is a good way of running into "no space left on d...

Hello, carum carvi. I guess it is normal that there are always/often critical securtiy problems present in any browser version. No need to worry I reluctantly tend to agree with your first statement. Yet I could not disagree more on the second statement. Of course, we users should be worried if any ...

Re: When do we get Firefox 66.0.1?

Hello, Valsador. I assume that the Mozilla Firefox developers give a much higher priority to fixing an open security vulnerability, than fixing a nasty technical annoyance. Which is a wrong policy because from that vulnerability will suffer only a handful of people, whereas most won't even notice it...

I'm more interested in getting a fix for that sleep problem I mentioned above.
