Re: VLC and Mplayer freeze computer
Thank you very much Elixxx, however, I was already using SMplayer as an alternative. Still, with respect ofcourse, VLC has some functions that SMplayer does not have or so it seems. For example, I can search in time (the ctrl+t function), what's more, I "rip" music from some website's with...

Re: VLC and Mplayer freeze computer
Nope, I didn't yet. I had this same problem posted on the VLC forums and they say my installation files (vlc) are corrupted somehow. Also the backtrace seems to show this crash. Here is some backtrace of vlc: (gdb) run -vv Starting program: /usr/bin/vlc -vv [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabl...

[SOLVED] VLC is not working at all
Hi all, Ever since I have installed Mint 16 Petra, VLC didn't work at all. I searched for an answer in the logs but found nothing except a segmentationfault when trying to start vlc media player. I'm just a regular user with no advanced experience like you do, so I called for help from the Videolan ...

Re: [HELP, permissions??] - php5 - how to setup the error_lo
If you want or need a error reporting system then you probably need to script one your self.
Try google on how to do that.
I can't help you further on this matter.

[SOLVED] Defragmentation tools
Hi all, I was wondering if there are any defragmentation tools in linux mint. The reason why I'm asking this is I have still a NTFS partition on one of my harddrives. Normally I would convert it but since I do not have the space to convert the drive I'm not able to. Earlier, I had a problem with Vir...

Re: VLC Media player installed but does not start
Thanks for replying and the advice. That might be an idea. I've used SMplayer years ago in Ubuntu and it did work.
I tried to play a .pls file, so for now I'm using Banshee, although it is not my favorite.
I hope to get it working soon as I use youtube as my music database

Hi all, As of today, I have Mint 16 installed. It works as far as I know but there is one thing. VLC Media player won't start at all. I have tried al sort of manners to get it to start but without any luck. - Via "video & sound" > vlc media player - Via alt+f2 - Via open file with in N...

Re: [mint 15] Linux Virus!?
Ummm, in my Mint all the folders that are locked down and only accessible by root have a small grey box with a X in it. And if you click on those folders you get "access denied" because... you're not root even if you logged in a root account (the whole point of using sudo and gksudo even ...

Re: [mint 15] Linux Virus!?
I'm sorry for my late reply, had a busy day yesterday. you are describing a "little red cross", could you post a screenshot? "running web servers with php", Sorry, I can not because if this is a virus it would do some damage. So I shutdown the host on which the problem exists and...

[mint 15] Linux Virus!?
Hi all, Like the title says, it seems like I have a virus on my system. In my /home folder, files and folders are given new permissions without me knowing about it. For example, I created a folder for my e-mail signatures, using an add-on in Thunderbird so I can sign my e-mails. I would see a little...

Re: mint 16 upgrade
A word of warning, A own partition for /home is a good idea. I'm doing it for years now. However... The /home also contains a lot of settings for programs that you may run (again). At some point there are bound to be errors and perhaps even crashes because settings or leftovers may conflict with eac...

Re: Installing Skype 4.2 on Mint 12 Lisa
I do not know for sure but in 15 skype is in the repo. Also try: sudo dpkg -i /path/to/where/install/files/are.deb In addition to that: sudo apt-get -f install The "-f" will force skype to install if there are missing packages. The last option I know of is installing ia32_libs although it ...

Re: Recover files from ext4 (or from .vdi)
Hi Xenopeek, Thanks for the reply. I already did that. As soon as I realized my mistake, I unmounted the drive and never used it again except for recovery purposes. Unfortunatly, I do not have space for cloning / imaging so I will have to leave the drive unmounted. In the meanwhile I have to study a...
