Re: Deleted my main documents folder! solved

You are correct. It was in the folder following the folder that disappeared. Makes perfect sense now.

Deleted my main documents folder! solved

Using Nemo I had the directory open, went to double click Documents folder to expand and my chair was bumped as I clicked. Documents disappeared! Not in the trash or anywhere. Fortunately I have a backup drive. This was on my SSD so I copied the backup Documents from the HDD to the SSD. But my quest...

Re: Do not install Mint 18.1 on Samsung SSD?

I have two similar systems that have no trouble. I'm using kernel 4.8.0 and my wifes is the version that comes with LM Cinnamon 18.1 64 bit. So might I suggest that maybe you got a bad download of your system. If you don't have much time invested in tailoring your system you might consider a fresh d...

Re: 18.1 disapearing desktop icons?

I tried restart with up to 4 seconds without relief. But shutting down and then turning on computer it worked. I don't see what the difference would be between restart and complete shutdown and start.

Re: Power outages! How do you deal with them?

In the last 4 years we have had number of short outages of just a couple seconds to a few minutes. I choose to have ups for both our computers and a small ups for the modem and printer. Allows me to keep working for awhile and then do an orderly shutdown. Only once in 4 years have I needed to shutdo...

Re: Firefox (& Chrome) are eating our SSD's?!

I'm no expert on ssd, but the newer models are not as sensitive to writes as the Earlier models to my understanding. I did some research before purchasing one last fall and found the latest articles say not to worry. My Samsung 850 Pro. Is warranties for 10 years.

Re: 18.1 disapearing desktop icons?

I have an open bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1649623 that may be your problem. Stopping and restarting Nemo also brings back the icons for me. Failed occasionally with 18.0 but always with 18.1. Problem seemed to start with installing 18.0 on SSD. Previously 17.3 was on HDD. Almost l...

Re: I have lost window borders and controls Mint-x or Linux Mint backgrounds

Thanks for your reply. Your idea would have fixed the problem. But I decided instead to use Unison to sync the folders so I could see what was missing. While all my folders were there, some subfolders and files were missing. So while usr/share/themes/Mint-X existed, gtk-2.0, metacity-1, index.theme ...

I have lost window borders and controls Mint-x or Linux Mint backgrounds - SOLVED

Mint Cinnamon 18.1 , I no longer have a choice of Mint-x for Window borders or controls. I was playing with my themes and I no longer have my choices I had. My other machine running 18.1 has these choices. usr/share/themes look identical. Where else might I have lost these two options? Mint-x is ava...

Re: Can't watch Hulu/Yahoo videos in FF 50

so you have mate vs cinnamon and a newer Flash. take that back on the Flash. In the list of plugins my system shows 11.2.r202, but if I click on More it shows your number 11.2.202.644
So all I see so far is mate vs cinnamon. humm

xmllint has a default of two spaces for indentation. How do I change?

The man page for xmllint has:
--format
Reformat and reindent the output. The $XMLLINT_INDENT environment variable controls the indentation (default value is two spaces " ")
Where is this $XMLLINT_INDENT environment variable and how do I change it to 4 spaces?

Re: Can't watch Hulu/Yahoo videos in FF 50

I just tried your link to Hitchcock and it works fine for me. FF 50.0 mint 18.0 Cinnamon. FF add-ons OpenH264, Divx 1.4.0.233, IcedTea, Quicktime 7.6.6, Shockwave Flash, VLC multi plugin and Windows Media Player Plug-in 10
Maybe you are missing a plugin.

Cannot use Unison to sync secondary drives of two machines

Just installed SSD drives and cinnamon 18.0 on two home desktop machines. I have used unison for 5 years or more but have a new problem I cannot figure out. My SSD drives are primary on both machines and the old harddrives are now secondary drives. I am trying to sync the secondary drives on both ma...

implementing a Samsung 850 PRO SATA III SSD 256GB

First, I have no experience with SSD's. But it would seem from a little research that most all the documentation on the web as how to set up an SSD are obsolete. Researching the above SSD it appears I only have to physically install it and then install my whole system, Linux mint, software and data ...
