Re: Emulating Retro Platforms
I installed RetroPie on my LM machine and it works pretty well. Don't be fooled into thinking that it's only for Raspberry Pi's. It uses RetroArch for the actual emulators and EmulationStation to provide a nice front-end launcher. Sorry to thread crash but thanks for the recommendation. I'd been lo...

Re: Looking for love.. and games.
In a similar situation myself and although I realise this isn't what you asked, why not pick up a 2nd-hand ps2? I got one for £20 (then picked up a cheap flat-screen tv for a tenner) - c-ex has ps2 games a-plenty at a reasonable price (burnout included - over the course of getting the ps2 I now have...

Re: Can I install xfce from mate then remove mate in 19.2?
Thanks! I'd like to say I installed that and all went well, but I already had it installed. What I hadn't done was click on the little icon and found the pop-up giving the option to select xfce from the login, so is my face red. So, one last question I promise, if I then remove mate from software ma...

Can I install xfce from mate then remove mate in 19.2?
Good afternoon, sorry to ask (I have searched the forum and online but the solutions seem to be for older versions on mint and options given don't apply). I have an existing 19.2 MATE laptop that I would like to install the XFCE desktop onto and move across to. I've iinstalled xfce meta and xfce goo...

Re: Undelete files SD-card
test disk is pretty effective from my experience. It's worth saying that it requires super use to work, the recovered files require root permission to amend (if I've said that correctly) so you'll then have to open caja (or your equivalent) with root accesss in order to change file permissions to us...

Re: Linux Mint Slow on my Core 2 Duo 2 GB RAM System
I can't offer any technical help but I have a netbook with a 1.6ghz dual core and 2GB of ram running the Mint 19.2 Mate edition and youtube seems to work ok within the browser I use (vivaldi), it's slow to go full screen but other than that plays ok. That said it's running at a lower resolution. My ...

Re: Mobile Phone OS
I've had a quick look and the nexus 5 is supported by lineage so i'd suggest doing a quick websearch as that should lead to step-by-step instructions for rooting your phone and flashing lineage on it. I've not done so for a while (the last time was when it was know as cyanogenmod) but it was pretty ...

Re: No WiFi on install on 19.1 cinnamon
Before someone technical comes up with an actual solution I thought I'd add a suggestion; I had a similar problem with my netbook (an Acer something or other) and until someone here came up with a solution to fix the in-built wifi I was using a USB dongle. Anyway, have you tried plugging the USB wi-...

Re: music from computer to iphone?
A few years ago I found Rythmbox could copy and paste albums onto my ipod (and vice versa), I don't know if it still does or if it would work on the iphone, and bear in mind my posts are barely double-figures, but I thought I'd mention it.

Re: Cleaning Disk Space
I am still a new user, but I recently tried 'bleachbit' from the software manager - It can wipe free space, shred files, remove unused repositories (if that's the correct term) and so on and running that on my relatively newly installed system cleared just under 900mb from the cache. That said it ru...

Re: trouble with wifi
Your broadcom car needs a driver. If you are connected via Ethernet Then do the following in a terminal. sudo apt install bcmwl-kernel-source reboot Wireless should work. Sorry to thread-crash, but I was quite sure the second-hand laptop I'd bought recently had a broken wifi as I'd tried several ti...

Re: Isn't "newbie" a warning to new users?
There are many different versions of different versions of linux. As a long-running 'newbie' myself (yes, the term in many forums can lead to being mocked, but the people on this forum are the most helpful and patient I've ever come across in my history of asking 'basic' questions about something - ...

Re: did a purge on flatpak now software manager has gone
Thank you both very much. As I said I am becoming more aware of how powerful the terminal allows someone (particularly like myself) to be, so will certainly make a concerted effort to pay a bit more attention to what I'm installing and (more importantly) removing. Thank you also for your patience, a...

Re: did a purge on flatpak now software manager has gone
To see what you've currently got installed, in a terminal window run flatpak list Then flatpak uninstall XYZ to remove should you want to. I tried this, which showed the following: i de.haeckerfelix.gradio/x86_64/stable system, current org.freedesktop.Platform.VAAPI.Intel/x86_64/1.6 system, runtime o...

Thank you very much for the quick response; it's back.. I was worried I'd broken other things too.
Now I'll look a bit more carefully into what gradio installed and how t remove only that.
*edit* thank you for the links as well I shall read through them now.

did a purge on flatpak now software manager has gone
A long story short; I installed gradio, then when I saw it was 2gb in size removed it, then (a few weeks later) looked again for internet radio streaming software and saw gradio - it was around 2mb this time so installed it again. Looking into things I saw that gradio install flatpak, so I did a qui...

Thank you all for your explanations and recommendations. I may have said it before but I'll say it again; this is one of the friendliest, patient and most helpful forums I've ever come across!
That said I will try to not keep asking questions.
