Re: Partitioning Questions

It's hard to say how big the root partition should be, because you have /home inside it. / (root) partition it self is about 4-12GB depending distro size. Mint 12, maybe about 10GB. /home isn't just users config files, but users home directory by default, so all personal data is behind it. It's your...

Re: Is this war, with privilege? Not on MY comp!!!

When running Windows the user has the ability to change anything , even core system elements. This is not true, at least in todays Windows versions. You can not change core elements in Windows. Windows OS is preventing you to do many changes what are related the OS it self. This is actually the sec...

Re: First Install of Mint - long time Ubuntu user

1) Yes ext4 is fine
2) I don't see reason why not.

I general I think it's more about knowing what to do, than can it be done. Mint 12 is based on Ubuntu 11.10.

Re: Cinnamon 1.3 released!!

Cinnamon 1.3.1. Sometimes my computer looks like it's totally frozen. But It's just Cinnamon what is using 100% of my CPU. I can get out of it, by Ctrl Alt F2 and killing Cinnamon process. It doens't happen often, but it does happen sometimes. I think it has happen me like 4 times after Cinnamon 1.3...

Re: Problem with cinnamon and screenshots (prtsc)

I forgot to tell you, that I have an ATI hd 4650 gpu and I use fglxr driver, the latest 12.1 that works with cinnamon. I don't know if this is a reason for the screenshot problem Screenshots doesn't work right with ATI closed drivers in Mint 12 (Gnome 3). Open GL Gallium 0.4 drivers screenshots wor...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Live CD... freeze

I don't really know much, just quessing. I think your issue is nvidia geforce 8200m related. I think you can still get into "ctrl alt F2", what gives you commant prompt. You can give command there after login in. "ctrl alt F7" returns to graphics view. But if you can't even get Live DVD to work, tha...

Re: Install Mint first then Windows

I've never paid too much attention on which partition Windows or Mint is located. I simply first install Windows then Mint. Yep, this is the easyest way to do. Install Windows first and leave same empty space in disk for Linux. Then install Mint. If you know what you do, you can do OS installation ...

Re: docky perrformance

Hard to say, because it could be something in conky code.
I don't have lack with conky, but I use pretty simple conky code.
How much CPU your conky use? For me it's about 1%
Does it show any errors when you run it from terminal?

Re: Wifi internet over Lan

I would suggest that you configure PC ethernet IP-addresses (LAN side) manually, but leave gateway empty. Then your printer and PC needs to be connected to WLAN routers (LAN side). What means WLAN routers WAN side isn't connected to anything. Now when you connect wifi it should make second different...

Re: partition Solid State Drive ( SSD )

I don't even understand what you are asking? You have read this: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=11872 Every linux needs / partition. That's only thing what has to exist. Swap exist in cases that computer runs out of memory. So swap is like addional memory, trying to prevent compute...

Re: Wifi internet over Lan

WiFi>card>PC<LAN<Router>WLan> Printer What does the "router" do in your network? Basic idea of any home network is this. Internet <---> Firewall (NAT) <----> LAN <----> All home devices. You have two wireless networks, your own and your neighbor's. So basicly your neighbor's network is your Interne...

Re: ati drivers = black screen

Do not install ATI drivers. Use the default drivers what comes when you do install Mint, that's what I'm doing.
I do actually get AMD's drivers to work for me, but I still use Gallium 0.4 openGL default driver.

Re: Trouble installing Mint? Me too. Here are some things to

You did nothing wrong, just wait after selecting restart, until Mint is done (black screen). If you where using Mint live CD/DVD it will split it out after while and ask you hit enter. Then the hole system reboot's. So restarts actually means shutdown the live CD/DVD what takes while.
