Re: which deb repository?? <SOLVED>

I had to change deb to deb-src. Then I found out that I didn't have the right gpg keys and needed to install them (apt-key).
Then, "apt-get build-dep gretl" and all of the dependancies to build gretl from source were downloaded in one fell swoop. Easy!
Note to self: "remember this next time!"

which deb repository?? <SOLVED>

I need to add a repo but can't figure out which one to add. It's for Gretl build-dep. Their (Gretl) wiki page says : You should be able to do this by adding a line to your /etc/apt/sources.list like this: deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian sid main then in terminal apt-get build-dep gretl I changed...

Re: add restricted rpos in Petra

Thanks, I managed to get it working. For some reason the option to install extra drivers finally became available in driver manager.
Luckily, I had a usb wireless adapter that works with most linux editions. That made it easy to fix.

Re: Mint 15x64 Asus u56e Wireless will not work

You don't need to do anything to load the driver, it's automatic. I wish that I had not added the PS about the other probs. Not sure if they're still relevant, may have been fixed in the newest version of the driver. You might comment those out and see what happens. Only uncomment if those problems ...

Re: Mint 15x64 Asus u56e Wireless will not work

The file you listed is firmware: iwlwifi-6050-4.ucode It goes in /lib/firmware check this out: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi The driver you need should already be on your hard drive. Install the firmware, shut down your system, and restart and it should work. best, Bob ps: just...

Re: Gufw and ping

Thanks xenopeek! I made the change for ping but the Shields-up site reports the same thing. The site must not be reporting correctly. I also checked which ports are listening as per your code and 443 was not listed. The shields-up site seems to be messed up, not reporting correctly. My Gufw settings...

Gufw and ping

Can you stop ping replies with gufw? I changed /proc/sys/ne/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all to 1 but it doesn't seem to help. I went to Shields-Up site: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and tested my firewall. It failed! Port 443 https is open. But Gufw default closes all incoming connections. Plus i...

Re: dual booting mint & arch, with mint first..

install it in sda3 and put its grub in sda3 as well (the PBR) Yes, but is grub install here sda3 (PBR) really necessary? I checked opensuse for core.img file but didn't find it any where. After you do sudo update-grub, how is sda3 being booted, direct or chainloader? Grub can chainload another grub...

Re: dual booting mint & arch, with mint first..

Why do you need a second bootloader? Isn't one enough? Just tell the first bootloader where to find the kernel and intrd? I'm not sure what opensuse did, where it installed a bootloader but it boots just fine after boot-repair. I did later manually setup /etc/grub.d/40_custom and do a grub config in...

Re: dual booting mint & arch, with mint first..

is there anyway, not toi nstall grub as part of the install process? I had the same question, after I installed opensuse 12.2 after Mint 14. I had dual boot Mint 14 and Win 7, then added opensuse. During the install there's a point where you check the place to install the bootloader. I unchecked al...

Re: mint automatically boots without any boot menu

Have you tried boot-repair? It will at least give you more info about your problem. http://sourceforge.net/projects/ubuntu-secured/files/ Choose the right version 64 or 32 bit, then burn it and run as live dvd. There's a forum at the main site: http://sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair/home/Home/ best, Bob

Re: mint 14 cinnamon date and time app

Thanks again! I wasn't aware of sysv-rc. I should have posted cinnamon-settings + calendar not date and time. There's a clock icon on it. Clicking the panel does bring up the same dialog but preferences + date and time is differentfor me. The time seems to be stable now, it's just the check box that...

Re: mint 14 cinnamon date and time app

Thanks, I'll look at that. Thought I could turn off that service (ntp) but not so strightforward in Mint as it is in opensuse. menu + preferences + date and time is diferent than cinnamon settings + date and time. Not sure why. I'm using the 64 bit version, not sure if it matters. But it's frustrati...

Re: mint 14 cinnamon date and time app

Nope! not fixed. Every time I uncheck the network time box, then close it,
it will revert back to use network time. There has to be another default
setting file for cinnamon. I'm looking for it, but haven't found it yet.

Re: mint 14 cinnamon date and time app

Thanks for that tip! I checked the file and it was set to no. But right clicking the app on the lower panel and opening settings showed that network tme was check marked!! Bringing up the date and time from menu + preferences showed that network time was off. The panel app isn't synced to the prefer...

mint 14 cinnamon date and time app

Does anyone know how to keep the date and time app from getting out of sync?
The time keeps changing from one logout to another. I keep having to adjust it.
I'm not using network time.
Thanks,
Bob
