Re: Which virtualbox to use, esp for guest addons?

Yeah, Oracle just released VBox 4.2.2 last week. Honestly though, I haven't had any problems with any of the VBox releases since I started using it around v4.0. For ease of use, I'd just go with what you can get in the Mint repo.

Apologies to the OP, hope I didn't confuse you.

Re: Add a Mirror to Software Sources In Mint Update [SOLVED]

One thing many people forget when moving to a mirror is to modify the /etc/apt/preferences file, otherwise Mint applications will not have the proper priority during updates/upgrades. Using either the command line in a terminal, or your favorite text editor from your DE, edit as root the file /etc/a...

Yes, you can use gksudo or gksu interchangeably. gksudo is actually just a symlink to gksu.

Re: [SOLVED] 'Dead' application links in Applications window

OR, you could just fire up the Main Menu application (or right-click on the Menu button and choose Edit) and just delete the dead links from the menu.

For applications the have a GUI interface (generally), you should use gksu instead of sudo.

Code: Select all

gksu gedit

Re: "Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds ..."

When you get to the login screen, click the Session button and specifically pick the Xfce session. The action you're seeing sounds a lot like what happens when MDM tries to log in to a session that's not defined.

Re: Compiling razor-qt in LMDE

Fortunately, the dependencies are easily fixed. Should've been less lazy and set up a local repository ( it's very easy ). I'm thinking of setting up a virtual package that would have "Provides: lightdm-qt-greeter" in its description. LightDM would grab it first (but you'll have to have a local rep...

Re: Compiling razor-qt in LMDE

I don't really like the idea of installing lightdm-qt-greeter 1.0.11 along with the current lightdm (1.2.2). I discovered it's not possible to install lightdm-qt-greeter in Wheezy, missing a key library. I chased dependencies around all afternoon trying to get it to work  Well, as I was replyi...

One of you guys wouldn't want to make your compiled .deb available, would you? :D I can upload those 12M of files to some file hosting service if you need them. Re: Compiling razor-qt in LMDE

Do you think it's possible to compile this on a command line only install of Debian testing? I mean, you don't need a DE installed to do this, right? I really want to build a system from the ground up, making it as "qt only" as possible instead of installing razorqt on an existing system. I'm not ha...

Re: Building New PC - Which Graphics Card to Use?

For me, I prefer nVidia. Their drivers seem to work better than ATI's. I've read many reports that even when ATI drivers install correctly, they still don't work that well.

Re: Developers On Linux Mint Standard x LMDE

Same here, I can't say I've found Debian in any of its branches to be all that buggy. Personally, I like both distros but one thing that bugs me about the Ubuntu base is the way they mess around with packages, sometimes removing features to make them "safer" for inexperienced users, and hiding many ...

Re: LMDE Custom buuild with cinnamon only?

I build systems like that all the time, starting with command line installation and adding only what I want. Works just fine. I've built several Cinnamon installations this way. Cinnamon is forked off GNOME 3 Shell, so there's still plenty of GNOME underneath, but that's by design and nothing to wor...

Re: Multimedia keyboard keys dont work

Thanks! That little script worked perfectly for the media keys. But the last thing, is there a way to make the calculator key open the mate-calc program instead of the gcalctool? +1 on the mmkeys script! It does work just fine for Banshee. Are you still using MATE 1.2? In MATE 1.4 I found the Calcu...
