Re: Compiling razor-qt in LMDE

That's a great listing of apps and info, zerozero. For someone like me, who's spent their entire Linux life in GTK environments, I needed exactly a source like that for Qt info.

Thanks!

Re: Mint 14 - mint-meta-mate question, what brought in k3b?

 The video driver shows as FAILED in the inxi report, but it's working just fine. dmsg and kern.log show it loading perfectly. I've noticed this on my other forays into Quantal with GNOME and Xfce. Wonder if it's something incompatible with inxi and Quantal? Although I have seen the issue in G...

Re: Mint 14 - mint-meta-mate question, what brought in k3b?

And a suggestion re: the meta package, caja-gksu and caja-open-terminal should be added as dependencies. I had to add them after the fact.

Overall it's a really nice ride so far :D

Mint 14 - mint-meta-mate question, what brought in k3b?

Not sure if this is the right forum so please move as needed :) Today I tried a proto-build to make a Mint 14 MATE installation. Started from the usual Ubuntu mini.iso installation, a Natty mini.iso. For some reason I can't get anything newer than that to pass the network autoconfig on my PC. Anyway...

Re: Any Ideas, Please Help

Have you tried using ctrl-alt-7 or ctrl-at-8 to see if the login screen is up on one of those terminals?

Sometimes the handoff to the login terminal is whacked.

Re: How can I effectively search for half-installed programs

Install a package called upgrade-system . It's in the repos. Once it's installed, open a terminal and run sudo upgrade-system It first does a dist-upgrade, but the real trick is that after that it runs an orphan scan and finds all the stuff that's left over from botched installs, package removals, e...

Thanks :)

On the moniker, the "eezy" part comes from the fact that I bounce between Squeeze and Wheezy :)
Right now I'm making a feature-for-feature setup on Wheezy, using MATE, that replicates my Squeeze setup.

Re: Cannot set desktop background in LMDE update pack 5

You don't have to do anything special to achieve this with LMDE. Just use the Desktop Settings app to turn on/off the desktop icons.

Re: Time settings out of sync

I've been glad to follow this thread since I'm noticing last modification dates in Dolphin don't match up with my current local time (US EDT). But before I apply this I'd like to make sure it's safe for a pure Debian-based distro like LMDE since it comes from Ubuntu, a distro that is known for doin...

Re: [SOLVED] building Cinnamon (sid)

After a reboot, the UP5 cinnamon version (1.4.0-lmde2UP3) isn't working on my wheezy boxes (no panel, no window theme). I took my UP5 test machine up to Sid this morning. Cinnamon is working OK, just the same problems I reported in the UP5 feedback thread. Settings and menu editor won't launch. Eve...

Re: XFCE 4.10

No need to reload your OS, especially if you've got it running nicely! You can just add the PPA for Xfce 4.10: Add to /etc/apt/sources.list deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10/ubuntu precise main You'll probably have to modify the preferences file, too. Add Package: * Pin: origin ppa....

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

I'm not sure if this excellent thread got buried or not, but this was a real nice one: Hacking LMDE Wait, something's wrong with the clock. If you use another OS like Windows or Ubuntu, setting hardware clock to UTC is not a good idea, so: sed -r 's/^UTC=yes/UTC=no/ig' /etc/default/rcS | sudo tee /...

Re: Dual boot Win 7 and Mint on separate drives

You can install Linux Mint to the second hard disk. Just make sure that you select to install the boot loader to /dev/sda. This will install GRUB in the MBR of the first hard disk, and GRUB will show a menu during boot to select which operating system to boot. I run two disks, one with Win7 and one...
