Re: Best WiFi option for Linux Mint 19 desktop?

Thanks you gm10 Had 18.2 used to work. Now doesn't. At all. Does have three aerials - ch0 ch1 and ch2 and the plug on ch0 is broken - possibly the culprit? I've no installed LM19 and neither the live or installed versions of 19 can see it either. Is there a terminal code I could use to attempt to 'i...

Re: Best WiFi option for Linux Mint 19 desktop?

There are Linux-compatible USB Wifi adapters for sale at around US$10 each. ... https://www.wirelesshack.org/top-linux-compatible-usb-wireless-adapters.html Unfortunately that list is from Dec 2017 so doesn't guarantee compatibility with the latest linux kernel AFAIK. I was hoping to find something...

Unfortunately that list is from Dec 2017 so doesn't guarantee compatibility with the latest linux kernel. I was hoping to find something I could buy locally (Australia) as I don;t want to wait 2 weeks to get this thing online.... I have started a NEW THREAD HERE: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtop...

Re: HP Laptop - Cannot find/install/enable Wifi adaptor

As a starting point it would be useful if you post the result of inxi -Fxz so people know your system details. :)

Consider this post also a free 'bump'. :)

Best WiFi option for Linux Mint 19 desktop?

It seems that my WiFi card in my computer may have killed itself. It's not being recognised at all. So.. as at LM 19 Tara, what is the best (most stable) option for WiFi in a desktop computer? WiFi card? WiFi dongle? something else? Also are there particular brands to go for, or particular ones to a...

Re: Mint 18.2 (and now 19) is having several problems, for no apparent reason...

UPDATE: Issue 1: HDD's not mounting - SOLVED. I didn't have a partition on them. Sorted now :) Issue 2: WiFi - still not found. As per my earlier post - Pulled the wireless card to find that one of the aerials (and plugs on the card) has broken. It has Ch0, ch1 and ch2 and it's ch0 that has broken -...

Mint 18.2 & now 19 is having several problems

OK well, While powered-off, try unplugging and replugging the SATA drives. Tried that to nil effect. Still doesn't (says it can't) mount them. Pulled the wireless card to find that one of the aerials (and plugs on the card) has broken. It has Ch0, ch1 and ch2 and it's ch0 that has broken - in case t...

Re: My Mint 18.2 is having several problems, for no apparent reason...

OK so I have tried booting into Mint 19 Tara which works BUT it still doesn't recognise the wifi AT ALL (so it's not even looking for a network apparently), and nor can it mount the HDD's. SATA and power cables all seem seated ok (and surely the UEFI wouldn't recognise them if they weren't) So.. I'm...

Mint 18.2 (and now 19) is having several problems, for no apparent reason...

I'll preface this by saying I've been away from the Linux world for some time (and was only a raw beginner previously) so stupid questions may be forthcoming. I did have Mint 18.2 Cinnamon up and running fine - wireless worked (connected no problems). Well I've moved the computer to the next room, a...

I'm also on 18.2 and having exactly the same issue. Was working last time. Moved computer about 12 feet, not working but the phone gets wifi there easily too.

Anyone please?

Re: How to upgrade to Linux Mint 19

Hmm. So if on 18.3 has there been a kernel update between then and Mint19?
If not, then how do I update Mint but tell it to keep the existing kernel?
Alternatively, once installed how do I then change the kernel?

Thanks

Unity desktop ?

I expect the answer will be no but no harm in asking.... Is it possible to install Ubuntu's UNITY desktop on Linux Mint? (I ask because I see Cinnamon is now available for Ubuntu and wondered if perhaps the reverse were also true). I just want to give it a try without having to install Ubuntu, if th...

Thanks ! Good link. Gimp is good and photoshop people will love it because it also has a steep learning curve ! Photoscape is a better option for casual users would don't want to do overly complex things with their images. Based on the comments on the linked article, it sounds as if krita may ...

I think that's the toggle when it asks to also install third party software. - all part of the same thing. Perhaps.

Re: Shrink DIsk linux mint

First that screenshot is low res and not of much help. That aside, you are - I think - talking about creating an additional partition for installing Windows 10. If you don;t know how to do this, then if I were you I would read all the cautionary threads on here about dual-boot installs. In short, co...
