Re: Age verification for the internet

As if anyone would give details of their OWN credit card to dodgy adult sites which of course are utterly trustworthy and secure.... I don't doubt that stolen card details can be purchased readily if you were to look around a bit. Similarly if they introduced some sort of verification "key" I'm sure...

They believe cats have compatibility issues with the MS Mouse.

Terry Pratchett on Stonehenge....
I don't like the place at all. It's all wrong. An imposition on the Landscape. I reckon that Stonehenge was build by the contemporary equivalent of Microsoft, whereas Avebury was definitely an Apple circle.

Re: Is Firefox too demanding now for older h/ware?

Dunno about all this technical stuff but my Netbook with Atom CPU and 2gb RAM did not enjoy firefox and seems to run much better with Chrome. Jut my observation. Nothing scientific about it.

Re: If you suddenly had a TARDIS...

I dunno - perhaps I'd go back and do a bit of good old fashioned Roman Emperor killing.
And if that didn't fundamentally alter the future, next stop Hitler killing.

And if none of that worked - go back and get a new 'green frame' Ducati 750SS bring it back to the present - and ride the damn thing.

Any more advice / info on this? SOFTWARE Q: There's MythTV - what other Linux software would be most analogous to Windows Media Centre (bundled with Win7) HARDWARE Q: For some silly reason I sold my GTX660 a while back, but have now decided to build a media pc which will eventually go to someone els...

Re: linuxmint.com : redesign

I just had a look at the site, trying to put my head in the space of a prospective but unknowledgable new user. Not TOO hard because I'm very new at all this. It makes pretty good sense to me. The menu is logical, the ABOUT menu obvious - and the sub menus of About Linux Mint and FAQ's are logical a...

Re: Why do we need so much help...

I still admire those who try to do something about it anyway. For example, the "Plowshares Movement" who have made several nuclear weapons unusable, at least for a short period of time, and the "Valve Turners" who shut down all five of the pipelines that carry Alberta tar sands "oil" into the Unite...

The older I get, the more I realize that there are people younger than me. I know that sounds silly, its a mental thing. I hear ya. People who've never known a world without internet and smart phones.... If the power goes off, they are all going to die. And then the world will be ours again.. OURS ...

OK cool - thanks for the responses all ! :D

So I suppose as a segue from the above... if Mint is ultimately based on debian (via Ubuntu) ... why are there separate Mint 'main edition' and 'debian edition'. ?

Just getting my head around it all...

What is RPM?

I gather it's some kind of package manager. ( I've heard of Synaptic package Manager refereed to as SPM... maybe it stands for Redhat or something?) Elsewhere someone told me If you use an RPM based distro I can probably help a bit. Others are more Debian focussed. Now I see LM has a 'Main Edition' ...

Wireless won't connect - Mint 17.3

I have set up my Gigabyte netbook with Mint 17.3 and have had it running for a while using it just for web browsing stuff (streaming mostly) No issues whatsoever very stable internet connection, until now. Battery went flat overnight, so I have plugged it in and restarted. It's not auto-connecting t...
