Yes in simple terms don't create the partitions in advance, the installer will do it for you.

Instead of downloading the installer manually have you tried just using the Additional Drivers module in System Settings?

Correction, the additional drivers has been moved to a tab in Software Sources.

Themes are not usually installed via the package installer, in MATE all you should need to do is drag and drop the theme archive onto the themes window or use the add theme button. Sorry but just posting output from a build without telling us what you are building and why isn't very useful. From your output it seems that driver is for debian and if so probably isn't going to work on an ubuntu based distro.

That's quite possible Albert, not quite sure of the cause, was wondering a little why there were 2 wireless adapters showing and wondering whether the ideapad one was the cause of the blocking on the broadcom when there is only 1 physical adapter afaics.
