You should not be recommending a dist-upgrade on a derivative distro such as mint, see http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9146 for reasons.

Re: installing themes on mint 14

the themes folder (/usr/share/themes) You only need to do this if there are other users on the machine and you want the theme to be available to them too. If it's just you, it's easier and safer to just put them in a .themes in your home folder for which you don't need to run anything with elevated...

There are no proprietary drivers for such an old card, the open source drivers built in is the only one available.

Afraid you are already running the only available driver for this old card. ATI/AMD withdrew driver support for it some time ago so you have to use the built in open-source driver.

Re: Help please! Wifi card (Atheros AR5B93) Not connecting!

the easiest way to upgrade Basically backup data and do a fresh install, see http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2 . Might be worth trying a live DVD of 14 to see if it connects to your router. As to whether to upgrade, 13 is a long term support version (5 years) and 14 only has 18 months ...

Re: Which Laptop?SOLVED

Crikey viking, well done for sorting it out but feel a bit guilty now that I pointed those machines out! On a different issue just noticed your sig, which will need updating btw, and thought it funny how I've just bought a used dual core Aspire when you're moving on from one?

Re: Help please! Wifi card (Atheros AR5B93) Not connecting!

The most obvious things to try is signal level, is there anything that could be blocking it, but from your description that doesn't sound like a problem. That leaves the channel, have you tried changing it to something else in case there are other signals interfering? You could also try changing the...

Re: Help please! Wifi card (Atheros AR5B93) Not connecting!

If it connects elsewhere then we know it's configured ok and the nohwcrypt option fixed it before so the question is what's different? What version of ubuntu did you have before as the drivers may have changed, and also what security is your router's wifi set to?

Sorry didn't notice your initial size. Yes 15 should be more than enough if you have a separate home partition, you could even get away with 10, my / is less than 4, but it all depends on what apps you install.

Quite simply Mint does not support this method of upgrading for the reasons you are now posting about. I suggest you backup your data and do a fresh install, see http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2
