Re: Qiana is booooooriiiing

I am yawning with boredom, but I am loving every minute of being bored. I like to be bored. I hope to continue being bored for many more years. I quit Windows because it was so exciting to give it all the attention it required (especially dealing with viruses!), and I really wanted a more boring lif...

Re: Greetings from Colorado USA

Greetings, RK! Thanks for your thumbs-up vote for Linux Mint! It is truly one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of all distros. Colorado is beauty! Used to live in Colo Springs years back. Still love to visit Estes Park every so often. Just gorgeous!! Retiring there, ahhh, you are blessed indeed!!

Re: Linux Mint ruined Linux Mint with DuckDuckG0!

I began using DDG because of Mint, which is where I first discovered it. I use it all the time now. I feel that most times it gives better (more relevant) search results than the others, and I REALLY appreciate the privacy aspect. It does take some time and practice getting used to if all one has be...

Re: Paradigm shift in File Managers

I've adopted both styles of file managers. I use tuxcmd for the 2-panel when I need it---that is, when I have to do a considerable amount of file operations/copy/move/etc, and the immediate access to the terminal for file ops is nice. For just accessing/opening a file or 2 that I need quickly, I use...

I don't know if there will ever be a "year of the Linux desktop." But with almost every Mint release, it seems like we are getting closer to the "year of the Mint desktop."

Heh. If Microsoft asked for a referral bonus from Mint for every "customer" they sent this way, they would make a killing! :P

Re: Mint Vs Puppy Linux?

Puppy's harder to learn for a new Windows refugee. However, it is eminently practical and comes with a LOT of useful software installed; most are bare-bones apps which do the job but have zilch eye-appeal, though you can always add more if you have the space. If you take the time to really learn Pup...

Re: Happy rant, a Linux love letter :-)

I wonder how many colleges out there would allow their students to use a non-windows OS (and therefore, non-windows programs for homework & such)? Honest curiosity on that. If I ever take a couple community college classes for fun, I wonder if they'd let me use Linux? How many students out there wo...

Re: Happy rant, a Linux love letter :-)

. . . . And then came the addiction, LOL. I started putting Linux onto anything I could get my hands on . . . Ha! Loved reading your story!! Very much like my experience, although when I tried putting Mint into a pint of Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Swiss Almond ice cream one night I found that I had actual...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

^^ Heh heh! After I had just started with Linux and was still dual-booting XP, I happened to get another virus on my XP drive though I was hardly using it anymore. Well, I was reading a ton of everything about Linux and found out it could "search and destroy" Windos virii. I copied some directions a...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

In mid-2010 I decided to try Linux after several viruses basically destroyed my Win XP machine. I got so fed up with M$ products and their restrictions, adware, spyware, etc., not to mention the monetary costs, that I jumped right into the Linux ocean. Mint was my first full-time distro, and I've ha...

Re: Upgrade-itis

I have a computer at work that had Mint 13 Maya on it. It's an old Dell laptop somebody basically gave away to me. It serves only one purpose in life which is to connect to wifi and stream Spotify and Pandora to my stereo system at work for background music. No files, no personal data, no nothing r...

Re: examples of professional photographers workflow on linux

As a serious photog, sounds like you would like Digikam, which has a huge variety of functions, including publishing. I used it in PCLinuxOS (KDE) for a while. Can't say how it well works in Mint, though it should probably run fine in Mint KDE. I wanted to simplify, so I switched my workflow to Gimp...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Fluxbox, though I'm only using it in PCLOS as I await Mint 13. What tremendous user-power in such a simple package! Not much eye candy, so no attraction for former Wind-blows users, but ask me if I care. When it comes to eye candy, I'm only interested in a machine/OS that lets me get my work done as...
