Re: Install LM13 AMD 64 Mate as upgrade to Cinnamon?
RE: Posting in two locations. I posted in two locations because I believed I was asking two different questions possibly requiring two different groups of experts: Q1. What can I do within the frame work of "updates" using apt and/or synaptic to resolve an apparently circular reference that was brea...

Install LM13 AMD 64 Mate as upgrade to Cinnamon?
I originally installed LM13 AMD 64 Cinnamon. Although I love Cinnamon, display problems forced me to change to MATE. Immediately after the change, the next update broke two packages related to opengl ( libgl1-mesa-glx and nux-tools ). As updates continue, the list of damaged packages gets bigger. Se...

Re: LM13/Cinnamon --> MATE = Broken Packages
No improvements and as additional updates come along the list of broken or "unconfigured" packages increases. The latest list is below. Questions: Is it possible to install LM 13 AMD 64 MATE on top of LM 13 AMD 64 CINNAMON without losing all my config and installed apps? Is this likely to resolve my...

Re: LM13/Cinnamon --> MATE = Broken Packages
I'm still fighting this. After hours studying the error log and trying to google terms I don't understand the critical points seem to be: libgl1-mesa-glx : Depends on: libglapi-mesa (= 8.0.2-0ubuntu3.1) but version 8.0.3+8.0.2-0ubuntu3.2 is to be installed which Breaks: libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 (!= 8.0....

LM13/Cinnamon --> MATE = Broken Packages
I was running Ubuntu 11.04 with home on a separage partition. I did a clean install of LM13/Cinnamon. Used it a week or so but ran into problems with my graphics card (ATI/AMD FGLRX). Converted to MATE. Everything seems OK. Did 162 "recommended" updates. Result: broken packages. The following packag...

Re: Panel autohide causes screen breakup w/ Cinnamon 1.4 SOL
Sort of Solved that is.
Changed to MATE and have zero problems. The ATI drivers work fine. Autohide and all other features work fine.
IMO Cinnamon is not ready for prime time YET! I will eagerly try every new release waiting and hoping for these problems to be fixed.

Re: LinuxMint13 Maya x64 (KDE) and catalyst 12.6 underscan i
I'm no expert but I believe this is the same problem I had with my Radeon HD 4250. According to the OEM of my monitor (Chimei) this is a known problem with the Catalyst Driver. > Start AMD Catalyst Control Center in Admin mode > Select DISPLAY MANAGER > Select DTV(1) > Select ADJUSTMENTS tab > in th...

Re: Panel autohide causes screen breakup w/ Cinnamon 1.4
The more I investigate this the more I'm convinced that the attempt to install the propriatary FGLRX drivers is the problem. "Additional Drivers" reports that the propriatary drivers are NOT active but a CLI test for FGLRX says it is there. Can anyone point me at instructions for completely purging ...

Panel autohide causes screen breakup w/ Cinnamon 1.4
I've been running Mint 13 Cinnamon 1.4 for about a week, no problems. I've had the "panel" set to autohide since install. Today the display started breaking up briefly every time the mouse crossed the boundry between the desktop and the "panel" The problem disappears if I disable "autohide". In fact...

User ID problem after changing Ubuntu --> Mint
I've been using Ubuntu since 9.10 and doing each new release as they come. I prefer clean install so long ago I put /home on a separate partition. Then I'd install the new Ubuntu version and give the installer the same login ID and PW. Every time I could boot up and my home folder and all files were...

Try this if Linux Mint LiveCD won't boot.
I downloaded LM12 and burned (?burnt?) a CD. - Wouldn't boot at all on my old HP Pavilian ze2000. - Booted once on an old Dell Dimension 8200 but failed when I clicked on INSTALL. After that it wouldn't boot any more. - It DID boot my ASUS based box with a brand new Samsung optical drive which is wh...

Re: LM12 + Cinnamon = Hang --> no mouse -- SOLVED
Solved A few more hours of Duck Duck Go and I found another forum that mentioned that the combination of LM12 + Cinnamon has broken PS/2 mice. I plugged in a USB mouse and got mouse back but lots of random goofs which I attribute to the incomplete install of Cinnamon. Uninstalled Cinnamon and got th...

LM12 + Cinnamon = Hang --> no mouse -- Help Please
I spent a long day installing Linux Mint 12 on one of my computers, an old Dell Dimension 8200, and bringing it up to date. I tried various setting and didn't quite find what I want in a desktop so I started installing Cinnamon 1.3.1 via the Software Manager. At 70% the process hung. I left it overn...
