Re: Apple Trailers - a solution

I started playing around with the solutions suggested on this site and now ESPN videos work.

I don't know exactly what I did to make them work. I will probably have to reinstall to make absolutely sure. I think it was Agent Switcher.

no sound now!

Be patient. I have the same problem too.

I have 3 computers and all 3 run Mint 13 w/xfce. And only one of them has a sound issue.

I am running some tests to determine where the problem originates.

I will use this thread to troubleshoot the problem.

done with windows-I think!

Good to here the news. I am not trying to blatantly attack windows but the fact remains firing up the brain synapsis and learning linux is fun! Maybe in the future you do get a 1gb ram computer with all kinds of viruses and you wipe the hard disk. At least you now know that you can do it. Once you s...

@Sailorman, I think you should still try Linux Mibt 13 w/xfce it may still work. And you should try Puppy Linux or Lubuntu. They are free so you have nothing to lose. @remoulder, I usually post on my iphone with Tapatalk so I cannot control the Title or at least I do not know how to keep the topic t...

Interesting new distro

Any Linux could operate as a web server (desktop or Server OS versions) --the main difference for a pure web server application being the reduction of desktop services: not needed when running a server as a server Really? I didn't know that. So any linux pro can use any Linux distro to run a pure w...

My point is that when you make the jump to linux you should have two computers. One computer needs to be able to download and burn on a CD/DvD. You can use a flashdrive but I personally do not use that method. And another "experimental" computer to learn how to install a Linux distro via CD/DvD (or ...

Interesting new distro

Very interesting post.

The three main distros I like to use are:

Arch - customization
CentOS - server
Mint - ease of use/user friendly

I may try Gentoo and Debian

Manjaro may be worth it too.

Can Arch or Manjaro operate a web server?

server

You can try wiki.centos.org for starters.

There are two major ways to build a webserver.

Debian and CentOS.

There is also Ubuntu but few will recommend it.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

done with windows-I think!

I remember when I first started. It was somewhat challenging because of the fear of the unknown. People on the forums were very helpful to me. And now it is my turn to help you. I will give you a step by step way to learn. First Question: How many computers do you own or have access to and are conne...

Ok, dont stress, I will definitely watch this post very closely.

Do not worry about asking questions on this thread. Downloading and installing the linux isos is actually easier once you understand.

Software manager does not work most of the time - no errors

I don't personally trust the GUI by default. Installing And removing packages is thw best way to get comfortable with the terminal. If the GUI is unreliable, inconvenient and slower than the command line then the GUI is essentially useless.

Software manager does not work most of the time - no errors

I always go:

sudo apt-get install <package>

by default. And if that works I may just for fun go:

sudo apt-get remove <package>

and then test to see if the Software Manager can do it.

Windows 8 and Gnome 3

That was one of the reasons why I wanted to try Linux several years ago. I liked the idea of doing something different. Changing things up a bit. If you are willing to tolerate change with win8 then a linux change is no big deal. Mint as a Desktop OS requires the lowest hardware specs. About the on...

is it true that you wont be able to put linux on a pc?

3fRI, this is what I am saying. UEFI secure boot will force Linux users to buy computers with linux preinstalled. and building your own computers will be less expensive with non secure boot motherboards because windows users will abandon them. and this only assumes that hackers wont find a way to wo...

is it true that you wont be able to put linux on a pc?

there is a possibility it will backfire.

Linux software is evolving.

There will be a market for non MS firmware and its implementation

There will be a market for workaround UEFI secure boot

Windows 8 and Gnome 3

Using Linux no matter what flavor takes some adjustment and learning curve. Hardware, downloading, different desktop, different apps, if it isn't one thing it's another. Some will fall in love with win8. But some will be mad. Funny thing is. win8 is a change. so those who stay with win8 are open to ...

10 Reasons Why Linux Sucks

Don't get me wrong though. Linux Mint is my current Development Environment. I am thinking of Arch because of the customization features.
