just an example: totem-common is not at v.3.0.1-8 but 3.4.2-1 and the same should apply to all the others.
Thanks for getting back to me. So what do I need to do? Can I execute the upgrade safely?

Question About Recent Updates

Being an LMDE newbie, I'm getting the following error message after the packages are downloaded. I don't continue with the upgrade for fear of breaking something :). Here's the partial list for there's many more on the list. W: Failed to fetch http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/pool/main/t/totem/tot...

Re: LinuxMint or Linux Mint LMDE?

I'm relatively new to Linux and over the last few months, I've tried Mint 12 with all the desktops, Mint 13 with all the desktops, and LMDE most recently. Why you would choose one over the other depends on your personality and your computing needs. To be more precise: 1) If you're satisfied with hav...

Re: How to access internet in virtualbox?

This worked for me from another post: Found a Simple Solution to the Connectivity Problem in Virtualbox: 1. Set the Network setting to NAT in Virtualbox settings for WinXP. 2. After booting into the virtual XP machine, go to Properties of the Network Adapter (right click on My Network Places, Proper...

Re: WOW!!! THANKS!

Fajah, Have you got Windows working on Virtual box? Yep, I got it working in Virtualbox without a problem. Since it was all new to me, I originally set it up with 10 GB of space (the default). This was fine for loading programs, but not enough space for my recorded files (which resides in Dropbox)....

Re: WOW!!! THANKS!

.....the only thing I miss from Windows is being able to use Ableton (I haven't managed to get it working in wine) and that problem will disappear once Bitwig Studio is finally released. I'm new to Linux this year. I starting with Mint 12 and eventually settling on Mint 13/Mate. I've tried all the ...

Re: Input lag with Cinnamon 64bit

First, I would like to thank DrHu for the info and links. After reading through the material, I decided to try htop to see what was going on. As it turned out, rtkit-daemon seemed to be an issue. Apparently, rtkit-daemon has a tendency to call upon pulse audio. Deletion of the file, and whatever I e...

Re: Input lag with Cinnamon 64bit

I just started getting some input lag today using Mint 13 KDE on a Lenovo Thinkpad T-61. I thought that it may be from some software I recently installed that may be hogging some memory but after un-installing all of it, I'm still getting lag. I don't know what's causing it for all was fine up until...

Re: Midi Software?

WineHQ AppDB entry for Guitar Power is old, but perhaps the tips shared for the 1.2.5 version still hold value: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=2583 Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Unfortunately, the solution didn't work out. It could be that my versi...

Midi Software?

Hi, I'm currently using Mint 13 KDE and I finally got Wine (Q4Wine) running perfectly (had trouble in previous attempts/versions). I'm trying some of the Windows based software that I use on a regular basis and the program I'm experimenting with now is call Guitar Power. It uses midi to generate the...

Re: Ditching Windows

......if I want to be a Linux user, do I need to devote so much time and start all over again? Or can I rely on the GUI/User friendliness of modern systems such as Mint? Being a relatively new Linux user myself, I haven't spent much time using command lines. Only when has been an absolute necessity...

Re: Moving to KDE from Cinnamon/Mate on Maya

Further to my previous post, I noticed that my application menu disappeared completely in using Openbox. I couldn't find a way to get it back so I had to uninstall Openbox. Everything is back to normal. It's too bad because I liked the speed.

Re: Moving to KDE from Cinnamon/Mate on Maya

I also have openbox which I have been recommended a couple of times now and am feeling inclined to try it out. Interesting that you mentioned Openbox. I haven't played around with alternative window managers because I generally leave well enough alone. However, I just installed Openbox via the the ...

Re: Need Note Taking Suggestions - Found Something

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried a few of them in the past. 1) Tomboy: Works fine on the desktop, but Tomdroid is a read only app. That won't work for me. 2) Sublime: Looks like you have to buy a license, which is something I wouldn't do for simple note taking. 3) Toodledo: Looks interesting. ...

Re: Need Note Taking Suggestions - Found Something

After searching around, I found that the Chrome (Chromium) extension Scratchpad works very well for basic note taking and creating To Do lists. It sinks to Google Drive and can be accessed/synced via my Android phone. Once launched, you don't need your browser to be opened at all times.

Need Note Taking Suggestions - Found Something

I'm currently using Simplenote via Chromium on my PC, and Glance Note on my Android phone. Both programs sync well with each other. After installing Mint 13 KDE, I'm started using KNotes on my desktop and really like it. However, it doesn't sync with my Android phone. Any suggestions on programs for...

Re: Moving to KDE from Cinnamon/Mate on Maya

When I originally installed KDE over Mint 12, it seemed quite slow so I stayed with Mate. I then tried all the Mint 13 DE's off the CD's and decided to try KDE again, but this time using a clean install. I find it to be quite fast and very stable. I'm a relatively new Linux user and have found that ...
