Re: Youtube Downloading and Converting

If you don't mind using the command line, try "youtube-dl". It has options to save in various formats. If you get an error message when youtube-dl tries to create the mp3 version, you may need to install "libavcodec-extra-53". Your solution worked and I did have to install "libavcodec-extra-53". It...

Youtube Downloading and Converting

I've settled on Mint 13 KDE is my current operating system for most of my computing needs, and did a clean install. I've successfully installed and used Downverter (for downloading YouTube vids and converting to mp3 format) in Linux Mint 12 and 13 with MATE in the past. I would like to continue usin...

Re: Installing KDE

Ahhh, you can unmark the package mint-info-kde. It will remove the package mint-meta-kde though, but it is safe to do this :D I ended up downloading the KDE iso file and ran it from a DVD to see if I wanted to commit to it. I decided to do a full install and replace Mate. It's clean and without err...

Re: Installing KDE

You can do it, there are many options for you. Just go to Synaptic Package Manager and install one of the following packages: 1. kde-full: As the name suggests, it has lots of applications and it includes both Plasma Desktop and Plasma Netbook. 2. kde-standard: Standard of course. 3.kde-plasma-desk...

Installing KDE

I'm currently using Linux Mint 13 Mate and it's working perfectly. I recently tried out some of the new RC DE's via DVD and I would like to spend some time using KDE. Is it possible to install the KDE DE in Linux Mint Mate? Is so, how would I go about doing it? I was thinking of creating another par...

Re: Do you run 64-bit or 32 bit Mint, and why.

I run 64 bit on my laptop (Mint 13 Mate) and just installed the 32 bit version on my wife's old desktop. Both run perfectly fine without any issues so far.

Re: Cinnamon won't load (just get wallpaper and mouse cursor

I have the same issue with Cinnamon not loading but only if the panel is set to the top, or both the top and bottom. Cinnamon loads when the panel is set to the bottom only. I had the same issue with Mint 12 and it was never resolved.

Re: Stability Anyone?

As a relatively new Linux user, I cut my teeth on Ubuntu and then Mint 12. Mint 12 allowed me to experiment with all sorts of desktops. Mint 13 with Mate has been extremely stable for me so far.

Re: Install Wine on Linux Mint 13 MATE 64 bit

I never had much luck with Wine. Never worked right for me in Mint 12 and certainly doesn't in Mint 13 (MATE). I would love to get it going because there are some apps I use that needs Windows to run properly, so I keep Windows around. It's not a big deal to boot to Windows.

Solved the problem. Had to install the Gnome-Terminal application separately from the Synaptic Package Manager.

Terminal Missing [Solved]

I've just installed Cinnamon over Linux 13 Mate to try out. Everything basically works fine except that "Terminal" seems to be missing. How do I get it back?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Problem Setting Default Browser

I found this solution to the issue as far as Thunderbird is concerned and it worked for me: In Thunderbird go to "Edit --> Preferences --> Advanced" in the Thunderbird menus and click on the "Config Editor" button. Search for the following three entries: network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http n...

Problem Setting Default Browser [Partially Solved]

I installed Mint 13 with Mate yesterday. Pretty much everything works fine but I'm having trouble setting my default browser to Chromium. Here's what I've noticed so far: 1) In "Preferred Applications", Chromium is listed and set but all else is greyed out underneath. 2) In the Chromium settings und...

Re: Broken pipe? Menu

Anyways, Now when I boot hard or soft the first time I click the menu button I can just barely see the outline of where the menu should be. Usually a click more and it appears. Now it's not that big a deal but it could be a precursor to the future of my install. Also, around the same time this star...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Right now I'm using Gnome and like it. Mostly because I like having the taskbar on the top. I was using Cinnamon (which is my preference) but for some reason, the taskbar only shows up when on the "bottom" setting. When set it to the top (or both bottom and top), nothing at all shows up on my desktop.

Re: Ubuntu One

OK to be clear I followed the directions in the link provided and now Ubuntu One is working. However there is no indicator that it is "on" For instance I have DropBox installed and it has an indicator in the bottom bar but I see no such indicator for Ubuntu One. So I did a test and took a pic with ...

Re: Menus Gone - Latest Update

I got it working. I didn't realize I could configure it within another desktop environment. The only setting that works is the "Traditional" setting which is the panel at the bottom. I still prefer the panel at the top but I can live with it the way it is right now.
