Weird Internet issue

Hello, At my work place, I have met a strange Internet issue today. I was using my usual laptop (LMDE2-64-Mate) connected to the usual WiFi access point. I was unable to surf with either browser I tried (Firefox / Chrome): "Web site unreachable". I was first tempted to blame the WiFi connection, but...

Re: Make Thunar Engrampa-aware

Well, answering to myself: the first idea was correct. I thought of searching for "engrampa.tap" and I found a file ready for use here (Portuguese, but clear enough). For reference, I'm reproducing the file below: #!/bin/sh # # engrampa.tap - Wrapper script to create and extract archive files # in T...

[Solved] Make Thunar Engrampa-aware

Hello, I have 2 PCs running LMDE2. The preferred desktop is XFCE, but there's also a Mate session installed. Trouble is, Thunar doesn't know that Mate has renamed File-Roller to Engrampa. So, the built-in (not "custom") actions "Extract here" and "Extract to..." fail (it's still possible to open an ...

Re: Graphics issues on LMDE2 32bits system

Well, I can't deny I've seen the banding again. I even saw it on some pictures within Firefox. But I've noticed it was quite easily solved by temporarily switching to another desktop or (if within Firefox) refreshing the page. I started Firefox five times in a row without any graphics corrupted. All...

Re: Graphics issues on LMDE2 32bits system

Well, maybe I've been a bit optimistic... Just after sending my last post this morning, I closed Firefox, and I saw my screen like this: http://www.zimagez.com/avatar/capturedcran-12102015-091547.png This disappeared as soon as I logged off and on again. So, harmless, but not very pretty. I have yet...

Graphics issues on LMDE2 32bits system

Hello, This may not be in the right section, but I suspect a graphics issue. This is a 32-bit Dell Optiplex GX520 running LMDE2. Re: Bluetooth: pc sent but non receive

Hi intrepid, your post gave me an idea. I did have gnome-user-share installed, but I checked the version numbers and I noticed that blueman was lagging a little (1.99 for LMDE2 as opposed to Testing's 2.01). So I plainly downloaded blueman 2.01 and I hereby proudly report the result: http://www.zima...

Re: Bluetooth: pc sent but non receive

PMFJI, I was following this thread along with that one , there is indeed something wrong with Bluetooth in LMDE2. My (aging) Nokia E72 used to connect pretty well under LMDE1 (both ways), but now I can't send any file either (only receive from the PC). I observe that when trying to send prom the pho...

Re: gnome-system-tools not useful LMDE2 ?

Is it OK to run mate-system-monitor on a Cinnamon system ? I have no idea what conflicts (if any) are caused by installing packages for one desktop in another, nor how to find out if there are any. [...] AFAIK, mate-system-monitor is pretty light on dependencies (essentially mate-system-monitor-com...

Hi,

What about trying mate-system-monitor? I use it without problems, though Mate is not my DE (XFCE instead).

Re: Evolution Email - Restore backup problem

Hi, I hope you backed up your current mail first. Assuming this, the evolution.backup file is merely a .tar.gz file which you can extract and browse. You probably want to extract just the .local/share/evolution/addressbook/system/contacts.db file and put it into the same subdirectory of your home. H...

Re: [NOT solved] Trash shown always empty

Does the problem persist when the theme is changed to a common default theme? Yes, I tried to switch from Mate-Faenza to Linux Mint icons, and no change: file restored --> trash shown full, next login --> shown empty again. Moreover, it's not only the icon: the trash applet in my panel has a popup ...

Re: hwinfo reports wrong resolution

Hi GeneBenson, Have you tried using vbeinfo from the Grub menu? If so, does in report the same info as hwinfo --framebuffer? No, I forgot that, I'm not familiar with the grub prompt. Here's a transcript of (the useful part of) the output: grub> vbeinfo [...] Adapter "VESA BIOS Extended Video Driver"...

Re: [NOT solved] Trash shown always empty

Well, actually it's not quite solved. It's true that each time a file is restored, the trash is shown full (if there are other files that remain in it). But it doesn't survive a reboot. On every startup the file is (wrongly) shown empty again.
