Re: After upgrade, PC won't shutdown

Well, I'm out of ideas. I removed libpolkit-gtk-1-0 . But IF libpolkit-gtk-mate-1-0 is installed OR the power manager is xfce4-power-manager THEN I can't reboot (or shutdown or logout) when docked. Pity, because I like the Xfce4 power manager: it's smart enough to switch off the laptop's builtin scr...

Re: After upgrade, PC won't shutdown

[...] libpolkit-gtk-mate-1-0 [...] was not installed on the old PC [...] Alas no, adding it results in the same symptoms as before (4 posts above). BUT I see this package: libpolkit-gtk-1-0 on the old PC (not on the new one). Isn't this package outdated too, and that perhaps causing conflicts with ...

Re: After upgrade, PC won't shutdown

Another update and a remark: Unfortunately, I still cannot use xfce4-power-manager because, when it's installed, while I'm allowed to logout, I can't shutdown this time! Instead, the PC goes in standby. [... libmatepolkit ...] It's a leftover from MATE 1.6. New polkit package in 1.8 is called libpol...

Re: After upgrade, PC won't shutdown

Update: the shutdown problem is almost solved after. I've had a look at the orphan packages, and I came across libmatepolkit . It wasn't installed on my other PC. I suppressed it, and now the main PC can logout without problem. I guess this packages created some kind of permission conflict. I have y...

Re: Evolution updates without suppressing obsolete libs

Well, I had a look at deborphan anyhow, and it led me to a solution to this permission problem!

Re: Evolution updates without suppressing obsolete libs

I don't know, I confess I suppressed these packages without running deborphan previously. I reckon it would probably have found them. However, I'm cautious with deborphan: it lists lots of packages, some of which are really necessary! But I guess that when a package is listed several times, it's saf...

Re: Trash shown always empty

Well this morning it appears solved. I was not particularly trying, but I happened to restore a file that I had accidentally deleted (there remained other files in the trash can). Immediately after that, the icons turned to "trash full" and the context menu "empty trash" was re-enabled. So the trick...

Re: Trash shown always empty

Hi Flemur, thanks for replying. Both commands do work, and give the same result: daniel@m6400 ~ $ gvfs-ls trash:// 6H00012012114.pdf daniel@m6400 ~ $ gvfs-ls trash:/// 6H00012012114.pdf This looks normal: this PDF file is the only one in the trash at present, after all I tried to get it back working.

[NOT solved] Trash shown always empty

Hello, who can help me solve this odd behavior of my trash can? It's always displayed as empty, either by the panel applet or Thunar or even Caja, which I tried just to be sure. Now if I open the folder, I do see the deleted files and I can restore them. Trouble is, I have lost the ability to empty ...

Re: After upgrade, PC won't shutdown

Well my "can't shutdown" issue is still partly there. I am able to shutdown or reboot alright. If I have the bad idea of logging out, it works once but the new login takes an age. Then I find myself in the same state as before, that is: nothing works (shotdown/logout/reboot). Also, the battery icon ...

Evolution updates without suppressing obsolete libs

Hello, I'm not asking for help there, but I thought the following might help other Evolution users. With LMDE2, Evolution got upgraded to version 3.12, and pulled a lot of new dependencies. And I mean, not updated dependencies (as they should have been), but actually new , because--what's with Gnome...

Re: Xfce 4.12 now in testing

Oh, silly me, I overlooked that again . I really could use some command-line culture! Worked like a charm of course. However, I did not install the meta-package xfce4-goodies , because it wants to pull xfce4-power-manager . And this package could be (maybe, maybe not...) the culprit of the "ca...

Re: Xfce 4.12 now in testing

Hmm... After upgrading, I realize I'm not sure how to upgrade XFCE, now that Synaptic doesn't let me upgrade any more. Should I use mintupdate? But it wants to update everything... (BTW, an option to "deselect all" would help.) Should I use the command line? But then, which option (apt-get install o...

Re: After upgrade, PC won't shutdown

I´ll check this out ASAP, but chances are it's not the only issue: see the replies to this thread I've opened on the XFCE forums. However, I'm running into a much higher priority issue, that is, Evolution not syncing to syncml server. It's like on my draft system, except that the reason it didn't wo...

Re: After upgrade, PC won't shutdown

Well, I think I've come up with a workaround, that is: suppress xfce4-power-manager and install mate-power-manager instead. I'll spare you the hair-scratching and odd behavior I encountered along the way, but so far so good. I even get back a battery icon in the notification area ( this post ), poin...

Re: After upgrade, PC won't shutdown

Hi Monsta, glad to see you there. So much for Plymouth now, I'm much more worried about not being able to shutdown properly. I suspect the new XFCE power manager. I have asked the question on the XFCE forums. I'm also thinking of using the Mate power management instead. (At present, it's not install...

Re: After upgrade, PC won't shutdown

An update: I only just discovered that, the laptop being undocked , everything appears to work as expected. So I thought my 1st issue could be just about power management, and I searched in this direction. There has been a change in the XFCE power management settings, where a new item has appeared: ...

After upgrade, PC won't shutdown

Hello, I upgraded "for real" yesterday (my main PC). The upgrade ran smoothly (including Nvidia driver), but I do have 2 issues. 1) The PC won't shutdown or logout. Any attempt at shutting down or logging out results in the PC entering standby mode. Even if I "sudo halt" from a console, the result i...
