Re: Upgrade report: some issues solved

I tried this Googlee-Earth on my upgraded PC (which has Intel graphics, arguably not the best platform for this software). GE does install and work, but it remains a very temperamental app. (possibly because of hardware rather than software). From the command line, we have many errors about network ...

Re: Xfce 4.12 now in testing

Yes, XFCE will be upgraded, but to which version? I understand that XFCE 4.12 now is the current testing ("Stretch" now?), but that it did not make it in time for Jessie (hence not for LMDE2 either--is that correct?) If LMDE2 has got XFCE 4.12 eventually, then of course my question is pointless. OTT...

Re: What made Root own /run/user/1000/dconf/user ?

I don't remember using gksu, but I'm sure I did "open as root" a folder (from Thunar). Maybe that was enough to trigger the bug.

Re: Upgrading a Nvidia-driven, SMXI-installed PC

Hi, What I can say is that SMXI works just fine in LMDE 2. I used it to install the latest Nvidia drivers (349.16) which work well with the latest kernel. Good! That's the information I was looking for. I wiped LMDE 1 and did a fresh install of LMDE 2. May I ask why you did not choose the Debian-pac...

Re: What made Root own /run/user/1000/dconf/user ?

Hi GeneBenson,

Yes, that's the workaround I had chosen first (except Mousepad instead of Leafpad). But OTTH, everything is fine since I removed libpam-systemd. Anyway, I'm pretty confident that problem will be history in LMDE2, at least it's not present on the test PC which I upgraded.

Re: Xfce 4.12 now in testing

Thanks, I'll do it that way. Not that I'm particularly keen on installing XFCE 4.12, but I guess I'll have to do it eventually and here's why. I had pulled the latest thunar version (1.6.8 ) from Sid some time ago, in order to get this long-standing bug (no network drive icons) fixed. Fine. But I on...

Re: Xfce 4.12 now in testing

PMFJI, I'd like to know what you XFCE 4.12 users upgraded first: LMDE to LMDE2, or XFCE to 4.12? Do you think there is a preferred order?

Regards, Daniel

Upgrading a Nvidia-driven, SMXI-installed PC

Hello, One day or another, I'll have to upgrade my main PC, which uses the Nvidia proprietary driver installed with the SMXI script . I don't want to rush things since there's a change of kernel; can I safely proceed as I did in the case of update packs? That is: 1) download and install all the upgr...

Re: A few cosmetic issues after upgrading

Well I pulled Blueman 2.0-1 from Sid, but I couldn't do that from Synaptic (I understand it is normal). So I apt-installed blueman after adding the Sid repo. Hope it is correct. After that, here was the result of "Browse Files on Device" from the context menu: http://www.zimagez.com/avatar/capturedc...

Re: A few cosmetic issues after upgrading

About blueman - the version in Jessie repos is 1.99~alpha1. Oh, that's quite a difference. On my older UP8 PC, Blueman is still 1.23. I only considered that Blueman was working well before the upgrade, and I didn't realize Blueman had undergone such an upgrade. So it could well be purely a Blueman ...

Re: What made Root own /run/user/1000/dconf/user ?

Yes, thanks, in the meantime I had found this bug report which I believe describes the same issue. But these reports are so long that I got lost (perhaps I was not the only one). Anyhow, I'm glad I could get your advice about removing libpam-systemd, that frightened me a little. It's gone now, even ...

What made Root own /run/user/1000/dconf/user ?

Hello, On a PC still running LMDE1 XFCE UP8, I was trying to replace some Gnome components with their Mate counterparts, which I prefer, namely evince -> atril gnome-search-tool -> mate-search-tool gedit -> pluma But after installing the Mate packages, Evolution began to start with zillions of warni...

Re: Evolution probelem with themes????

Just to complement Monsta's post which I discovered while I was writing mine: 1) I could run Evolution under Mate and Xfce, under various themes; the result is more or less pleasing, but I don't see anything as severe as what you have. 2) What about launching Evolution from the command line to see i...

Re: A few cosmetic issues after upgrading

Good advice, killer de bug, thanks! After removing mate-notification-daemon, I got back the regular Xfce notifications. Before the upgrade, either this package was not installed, or it kept quiet for whatever reason . Edit: it was pulled by mint-meta-debian-mate, (step 6 of the upgrade instructions)...

A few cosmetic issues after upgrading

Hello, here are some minor issues after upgrading a "test" PC. It was installed with the Mate ISO, but the main desktop is XFCE. 1) Bluetooth. I installed Blueberry as in the upgrade instructions, but I kept Blueman which I'm perfectly content with. Only if I try to "Browse Files on Device" I get a ...

Re: Evolution probelem with themes????

Hello, can you remember which version of Evolution you had before the upgrade?

Let's assume 3.8 (now 3.12). Can you look (in Synaptic) for packages beginning with Evolution which would still have the old (< 3.12) version number? You may get rid of them.

Re: Do I Need Texlive?

FWIW, one can uninstall the texlive-*-doc packages without suppressing the texlive packages themselves after they have been installed. At least, it was possible with texlive 2013.

Re: Upgrade report: some issues solved

While we are at it: before the upgrade, this PC had ia32-libs ia32-libs-gtk ia32-libs-i386 ia32-libs-gtk-i386 After the upgrade, only the last one survives. A couple of my 32-bits apps really don't like that (e.g. glGo ). They agree to start, although cosmetically challenged. Still, it's better that...

Upgrade report: some issues solved

Hello, I've just upgraded my (secondary) PC to LMDE2, and I thought perhaps I should share a few things. 1) Graphics. That was the most scary part of the process: I ran into the "quarter screen" syndrome described in this post . The solution involving editing /etc/mdm/Init/Default did not work compl...

Re: Faiing at the first hurdle

Oh, I see. Thank you for this very welcome clarification.

So I conclude that the /etc/apt/source.list file can be kept during the upgrade, as long as there's no conflict between repositories.

Good to know!
