Re: Mount Samba Shared Folder for Back in Time

I don't know if this will help, but when I was having trouble with samba, I added the following to each entry for shared folders in /etc/samba/smb.conf. This is a sample entry from my Desktop folder, which I have shared: [Desktop] path = /home/robert/Desktop writeable = yes ; browseable = yes guest ...

Are you sure you're using Gnome? This thread is 4 years old - Mint doesn't have a Gnome version anymore - it has Cinnamon, MATE, XFCE, and KDE versions.

I just reinstalled the AMD drivers and everything seems to work ok now, it's weird cuz i did that already before posting here, resintalling seems to work. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience. Welcome to the forums Adrian! I'll speak for the board when I say: "No worries". Glad you got it working...

Re: A Mix of Mint & Ubunt?

Did you mean installed the mint-meta package in Ubuntu? That's why your system is still showing as an Ubuntu system. If you'd like to have a 'clean' system, you're probably best off re-installing Mint from scratch.

Chris -

Try typing

Code: Select all

inxi -C
into a terminal and post the results. If it is Mint that is mis-identifying the processor, then this will show it.

Re: video editors

I'm still using Mint 13, but you shouldn't have had to add a PPA for Openshot. Software center is really excellent for application browsing, but it has more maturing to do on the installation front. I highly recommend installing Synaptic Package Manager, then try installing Openshot again from Synap...

Thank you Clem for clarifying this issue. It made me sad to read that you were hurt by some of the comments, and I'd like to say that it looks like you were just trying to make things easier for the user, even if the choice wound up being the wrong one. I am confident a solution can and will be foun...

The gksudo gedit didn't work for me; the depository file does not open. But with sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list I cold block the medibuntu depository. After I did that everything is working OK again. Thanks for the responses that have helped me to get to the right direction. Interesting - I was able...

Re: Why Free Software Is More Important Now Than Ever Before

Mr. Stallman, as usual, is correct and I agree with his opinion. Unfortunately this world is not the Utopia he dreams of and he has not factored in the human trait of trying to get one up on everyone else. It has always been there, and always will be, so I am afraid proprietary software will always...

Before you make silly accusations, perhaps you told google earth to cache so much  .
From the GE menu go to Tools => Options, and you'll see a multitabed box like this:

Re: Ubuntu and windows, sitting in a tree...

As far as I can tell, no developer has posted on this issue - at least on this thread. This does seem like something that will eventually be an issue for Mint. I hope that Mint keeps its focus on desktops and laptops, as well as moving from X to Wayland. It's too bad to see the direction Ubuntu has ...

Re: <SOLVED> Can I, and how do I, safely disable mate panels

I know this is marked solved, but the OP brought up a very good point about the MATE panels - I'd like to see the 'menu bar' as well as the other applets be as transparent as the rest of the panel if transparency is desired (I don't use a transparent panel on my Mint/MATE boxes because of this bug/f...
