Re: X-server suddenly magically not configured

5 odd views and no ideas. Well, I'm in a bit of a dilemma, so if there aren't any ideas on how to fix this I have to backup my home folder, but first I need to know how to either: A) mount my long term storage partition in tty (something I can't do for some reason) or B) force caja to allow me to co...

[Solved]X-server suddenly magically not configured

This is the worst experience ever, and I'd hate to see it sour an otherwise good experience with Linux so far this last year ( ), but this problem blows my mind  . Anyway, I had been faffing about in windows for a couple hours and when I went to boot back in to Mint I was greated wit...

Re: [Solved] Bash Aliases used through MATE launcher menu

Ah yes, space should never have been allowed in file or directory names. Too late to change that now. Well, I guess it's really the result of running a cross-platform application whose native platform (which was Mac OS) didn't seem to have a problem with silly spaces :) (and of course doesn'...

Re: Bash Aliases used through MATE launcher menu

Thanks Bjorn, I got a nice little bash script working now :D. (Indeed, the file name stays the same, except for a silly space that gets added when it is saved from within the application, which causes problems later down the line when I go to restart ;)).

Re: Bash Aliases used through MATE launcher menu

No that can't work, only bash knows your aliases, they only make sense from within bash. MATE has no clue. The alternative would be to write a small bash script and run that instead. Thanks for the reply Bjorn. I was starting to think that might be the case - it looks like I got some reading to do ...

[Solved] Bash Aliases used through MATE launcher menu

For a little more background, I'm using the classic style menus in MATE. I have a bash alias that I'd like to run through the menu (i.e. Mozo/"Main Menu") - is there a way to do this? Specifically this alias calls to rename a file and launch a program, but nothing I've tried seems to yield anything ...

Re: Pathetic battery life on Mint 14

I'm still on Mint 13 here with backports repo enabled. Jupiter is working well for me on my Dell XPS 14z with Mint 13 Maya & Cinnamon 1.6. In my opinion, Jupiter shouldn't even be necessary. Apparently from what I've read, Windows power management is still leaps & bounds above Linux power managemen...

Re: Mate panel applet "Weather Report" Forecast Not Updating

Which airports that formerly reported are no longer showing current information? ABQ International and Double Eagle II Airport. Here's the old forecast I still get pasted from the Forecast tab: TODAY PARTLY CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE MID 80S TO LOWER 90S. SOUTHEAS...

Re: Mate panel applet "Weather Report" Forecast Not Updating

The base information comes from area airports. What happens if you select an alternate? Thanks chiefjim, I'm that much more informed now. Interestingly, switching it to other places gives similar results - "Forecast not available at this location", however, some of the places do seem to have a corr...

Mate panel applet "Weather Report" Forecast Not Updating

I have the Weather Report applet on my Mate panel, and noticed the other day some unusal forecasts, to say the least. It's winter here, with a current temperature of 36°F, it is clear from the screenshot that the forecast is way off (looks like a summer forecast). Anyway, where are the setting for t...

Sorry that it took me a few days rkmugen, but I have it figured out. Zerozero referred me to this post, which lead to the conclusion that GDM themes can be used directly (and I have tested to make sure :D).

Re: MDM 1.0.8 no longer backward compatible?

it's my understanding as well but i don't (usually) use mdm and surely not in a way that i would tweak it so haven't test that  That is a shock - you seem quite broadly knowledgeable ;). So, I reverted a theme back to GDM and it worked superbly - it looks like my how-to is now obsolete :D. T...

Re: MDM 1.0.8 no longer backward compatible?

maybe this can help you http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=187&t=119075&start=20#p661683 Maybe it can help. That post (if I'm not mistaken) suggests that GDM themes are now completely compatible. So, the only thing I can reckon this means is that any changes I made porting themes to MDM ar...

[Solved] MDM 1.0.8 no longer backward compatible?

I noticed that all my previous mdm themes (most of which were themes I had ported from GDM) were removed after an update upgraded mdm the other day. Has MDM lost backward compatibility with GDM themes? Thanks for reading :D.

Re: Login screen with face selector

I just figured out how to do this today, with Mint Pro MDM theme . Download that, install it by dragging the tarball into the list found in Login Window (under Administration in the menu) on the 'Local' tab *see picture below. You'll have to use Mozo (aka Main Menu, formerly alacarte) to enable the...
