Just tried to cold boot and automount my external USB drive nft with Mint 14. Automount worked both with Gnome3 and Cinnamon.

I have got Dial-up to work and it was a little work to say the least with the newer Linux releases. Win-Modems are usually very hard to work with but they can work. Most external hardware models work well. The older ones are usually very friendly.

Is your boot option on the F12 key? You should get a short message on the bios screen for a few seconds. You can also go into your bios and select to boot on the USB first. :D

Hi shaggydavid, I to have been using ubuntu for years and started playing with Mint along side of many OS. At this point I must add that Mint is my favorite. Welcome aboard! :D

I really like Mint 14 with Cinnamon but also added gnome3 shell and can jump between the flavors at the login screen as I please.
