Re: Forum has been upgraded (report issues here)

Been lucky enough that I have not seen an ad yet.

Not sure which addon is doing all the good work or if it's the modified hosts file. :D

Re: Keyboard shortcut for Xfce shutdown?

I used this on my headless file server. To shut it off, I just tap the power button once when walking by. Xfce set "Power Button" to shut down when pressed. sudo nano /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-power-manager.xml change the follow number at the end of the line from "3" to "4" on ...

Re: DNS Leaking when using VPN

The idea of bind9 is to stop the dns leak by using bind9 and 127.0.0.1 This will stop dns leaking without even using a VPN. After installing the VPN there should be no leaks there as well and if there is, it's your vpn provider that has a leaking dns. Included are a few pics. http://i.imgur.com/3oSf...

Re: OpenVPN Vs. PIA Applicaton Setup

I have no access to the internet when the PIA client is disabled or removed. In order to even read any responses posted to my request for assistance, the PIA client must be installed, active and running. The PIA client is constantly disconnecting my computer from their vpn servers leaving me with n...

Re: Why would the WiFi connection just quit connecting?

You said you closed the lid. I assume you never shut it down first.

So my question is if the above is true, did you try to reboot your computer yet?

Re: Avoiding IoT

The only smart device I have is a smart meter. This was installed by force. For the dumb phone and dumb TV, those industries themselves are trying to rub out the dumb versions of their products. Smart shoppers buy dumb products and vote with the wallet. Yep, I've got one of those as well. They even...

Re: OpenVPN Vs. PIA Applicaton Setup

I made the poor decision of enabling VPN kill switch only to have it permanently disable internet when PIA is not running and connected. Can anyone help me remove this service? I disabled the switch setting in the PIA client, but nothing has changed; if PIA client is not running, there is no intern...

Re: Not another Mint anti virus question.

If you really want to run a anti-virus program. Look at Sophos, it's free and you can run it on demand. No need to have it running all the time, start a scan before you do your banking. https://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-linux.aspx Been using it for years and only ...

Re: Not promoting proprietary software use in Linuxmint

I for one rather use Linux with some proprietary software then not be able to use Linux at. Thanks to Steam and Chrome, I no longer need Windows for anything anymore for over three years now. This is what gets me about the "it must be free" mentality. If you take away the commercial component for o...
