Re: Advice from one newb to another!

I have used Pjotr's tips for sometime now, not just on LinixMint.

He's a great asset to the Linux Community.

Re: Why Shouldn't I Switch To Linux?

Linux is not Windows and Windows is not Linux.

A lot folks here run both, either in a VM or Dual boot.

The best of both worlds for some.

If you are talking about firefox, try searching for:

privacy.firstparty.isolate

As you can see the value of privacy.firstparty.isolate is set to false. Double click to set it to true.

Re: This forum is FRIENDLY....

I would have probably left Unbuntu for LM anyway but the Ubuntu forum had maddeningly inconsistent moderators , at least 5 or 6 years ago. They seemed to let flame wars, rudeness and insults go while and then nit picked the tiniest perceived infraction. Anyway I haven't been back in years - every i...

I very much enjoy coming to this site and all the folks here.

Enjoy a few other sites but not very many of them are friendly to beginners.

Re: Remote desktop on Mate 18.3

Ran a headless server for a few years and thought I would try something a little different.

Done a fresh install of xfce on all clients and the server.

Installed x2go and must say it's fantastic.

Re: Error installing Filezilla

Hi, with Filezilla you will need to install the one for the Mint version you are using.

Since Mint only uses LTS versions you will need to download the deb for that LTS version.

Only voted once and can say that I've been Windows free for years.

Sure glad the question wasn't how many different Linux OS and flavors you use. I would of ran out of fingers and toes to count on.

Re: VMware installation

Used VMware for a few years without issues.

Been away from it for a year or so now as I have enough test computers to run without having to use a VM.

Tried most of the different VM software and found for my needs VMware (free) ran the best.

Been using Linux OS now since 2005 and always remembered 2 users when a terminal window is open.

Can it be you are always signed into root only for everything?

Re: Where to turn for support with other distros?

If it's a Ubuntu based distro, they have a section for other distros. BTW Ubuntu has the BEST user support, period, esp. for newbies where nothing else is even close (I'm an ex ubuntu user at the moment btw). But the Other Distros section support isn't as good as the regular section. It's so good t...

Re: firefox error 26

I can confirm it works with an updated Firefox without issues.

Try disabling your addons and trying it again.

Add one back at a time if it works and see which one is causing the problem.

Using Ublock, Ghostery and HTTPS Everywhere without issues.

Re: OpenVPN Vs. PIA Applicaton Setup

The way I see it, you either trust your Vpn supplier or DNScrypt supplier. There is VPN providers that people would likely not use as well as DNScrypt providers. Cisco is one of the big DNScrypt players that a lot of folks trust as myself, but they record everything as Google does as well. The no na...
