How can effectively stop MDM ?

I know this has been debated, but I'm afraid I haven't been able to gather a definitive answer:when in a console, how I can effectively kill mdm and prevent it from coming back unexpectedly ? As you may imagine, this has to do with installing in a console video drivers like ATI (manually or via the sgf...

Re: Where are Compiz packages in LMDE UP6 ?

Yes,that 201303 rc iso exactly...I kinda suspected that something had changed in Debian, but I asked to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious... So,if you don't mind the next dumb question, the only way to currently use that Compiz packages in LMDE would be to modify the software sources to tra...

Where are Compiz packages in LMDE UP6 ?

I've just booted the LMDE UP6 CD to see what's what, and I haven't been able to find in the repos the Compiz packages I'm currently using in my disk installation of LMDE:what gives ? Has Compiz been removed from the LMDE repo ?

Exactly ;) I've now read the vbeinfo output and changed accordingly to the resolution you've suggested:it works.

Changing grub timeout and screen resolution

Hi,I've edited /etc/default/grub like this GRUB_DEFAULT=0 #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT=15 and # The resolution used on graphical terminal # note that you can use only modes which your graphic card supports via VBE # you can see them in real GRUB with the command...

Re: Suspend issue in Mint Maya

I've just seen that suspension to S3 state and resume work with this mainline Ubuntu kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/ma ... 4-precise/,with the default (non-proprietary) radeon driver.

And also works with Liquorix kernel.

Re: Suspend issue in Mint Maya

Thinking of it,knowing for a fact that suspension works in Ubuntu with the 3.0.0-20 kernel from the Ubuntu kernel PPA : what if I add that repo in Maya, install that very same kernel, boot on it and try to suspend? EDIT:or,maybe more appropiately,an updated kernel from here http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~k...

Re: Missing network icon in notification area (Mint 13 Maya)

I've searched on the system for nm-applet,and found this file /etc/xdg/autostart/nm-applet.desktop, containing the line NoDisplay=false so I've set it to true, but nothing has changed. Furthermore,if launching nm-applet from a terminal, this is the output: ** Message: applet now removed from the notif...

Suspend issue in Mint Maya

After having issues with suspend in Mint Debian,I'm back to square one with Maya as well:it doesn't work, the computer simply shuts down if i click Suspend in the Quit dialog box, then if I try to resume pressing the power button it tries to spin up the disc a couple of times, and finally kinda restart...

Clearlooks theme, can it be installed in Mint 13 Mate?

I'm kinda used to the Clearlooks theme,I've been using right from when I've tried Ubuntu 8.04 back then, and I was going to install it in Maya as well, only problem being I can't find it,but I've come across a theme named TraditionalOK in the package mate-themes that looks a lot like it,if not just th...

Missing network icon in notification area (Mint 13 Maya)

Hi,after having some issues that made me steer away from Mint 12 in favor of Mint Debian,I've just installed Mint 13 Mate to give it a try,in a separate partition alongside Mint Debian:I'm trying now to set it up and see how it goes, however I've immediately had an hard time trying to set manually my...

Re: Suspend/resume issue in LMDE (again)

Below is the last part of the log after enabling debugging for pm-utils and trying to suspend again, does anyone see anything obvious that could help determine the issue ? I'm after the impression that failure to suspend is related somehow to my graphic card and/or the ATI driver, but I cannot be sure...

Re: LMDE now freezes after boot following UP6

OK,at this point there's nothing left to do but trying to reinstall the driver on the latest kernel included in UP6 and hope for the best-since I can't use the graphic interface I guess I'll have to do this in a console, right ? Just for the sake of understanding what may be going on here,if the driv...

Re: LMDE now freezes after boot following UP6

Sounds like I'm in for an interesting time:the link you provided highlights some serious issues with the ATI/fglrx driver,I was thinking already about reinstalling, but maybe this won't change anything,as the driver *is* actually installed and still works if booting on the older kernels 3.2.0-2 and 3...

There's definitely a problem (as expected) with the ATI driver: fglrxinfo Error: unable to open display (null) apt-cache policy fglrx fglrx: Installed: (none) Candidate: (none) but at the same time dpkg --get-selections|grep fglrx fglrx-atieventsd install fglrx-control install fglrx-driver install f...

LMDE now freezes after boot following UP6

Well not much to add ;) LMDE was working reasonably smooth on my computer up to update pack 5 (well there was an issue with the 3.2.0-3 kernel which caused an higher system load, solved by booting on the previous 3.2.0-2 kernel, and some annoyances with Compiz outlined here http://forums.linuxmint.com...

Re: Why are Update Packs based on Testing rather than Sid?

I'm no expert, but I believe there is some logic in this:MintDebian is presented as a rolling release, yet for comparison Ubuntu Lucid (which I'm using right now on another partition),now nearing the end of its life cycle, still receives a constant stream of updates-it ironically seems more of a rollin...
