Xfec 18.0 released?

One of my local mirrors (http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/) now has LM18.0 xfce in the stable directory...

So I guess I can go ahead and give it a proper install! :-)

Cheers,

Mike.

Yeah, but "minty" denotes "green", doesn't it? :-)

The Mint-X theme is slate grey and dull. Why not just rename Kokodi as "Mint-Z" and be done with it? :-)

Cheers,

Mike.

LM xfce default Window Manager style...

I know everyone has their own preference, but surely the default Windows Manager theme (Settings>Windows Manager>'Style' tab) in LM xfce can be something a little more interesting (and less drab!) than the current 'Mint-X'. Personally I always change this setting to 'Kokodi'. This particular style m...

Just giving LM18.0 xfce beta a whirl - loving it!

Just trying out the 18.0 xfce beta under VirtualBox... Looking very good! One thing I noticed immediately (and I'm fairly sure I'm NOT just imagining it!) is that the annoying delay when you first lick on the Whisker menu is gone - popped up as soon as I clicked on it. One VERY minor irritation stil...

Re: Xfce 18?

I'm also looking forward to LM18.0 xfce... I've d/l and tried (for a couple of days each) the Mate and Cinnamon versions. Much preferred Mate. Cinnamon looked a bit 'strange' and had a few issues, as others have mentioned. But I still find myself preferring my LM17.3 xfce install - much cleaner, sna...

Getting compton to work with 17.3 xfce?

Hi Guys, Clean install of LM17.3 xfce. Want to use Compton. Go to Desktop Settings and select "Xfwm4 + Compton" (the default is "Xfwm4 + Compositing") Screen redraws, all drop-shadows and nice shading now gone. (was there with "Xfwm4 + Compositing") I have my old comptom.conf file in my home directo...

Re: LM 17.3 xfce clean install - wallpaper corruption...

Yes, my old PC is getting a bit creaky! In the BIOS I could only boost the video buffer from 1MB to 8MD - no difference. However I found that by reducing the screen res from 1920x1200 to a slightly lower 1280 x 800 the backdrop displayed okay. So it looks like the old Intel 82865G chipset is not hap...

Re: Enable Mint 17.3 XFCE system sounds

You're in the same boat as a lot of people - getting basic system sounds to work in LM is a mystery to most (including me). Why it can't be a simple matter of ticking the "Enable system sounds" option, I don't know. There are very few tutorials on how to get it to work and none of the ones that I've...

Thanks for the prompt reply chaps... The only GFX corruption is the backdrop, everything else is fine... See below for the output of "inix -Fxz"... LM 17.3 xfce clean install - wallpaper corruption...

Hi Guys, Just performed a clean install of LM 17.3 xfce 32-bit on an old Dell 170L that was previously running LM 13 without issues. However with 17.3 I've hit a glitch - the wallpapers/backdrops are displayed incorrectly after a reboot. See below... backdrop173.png If I go into "Desktop Setting" an...

17.3 xfce upgrade now available in Update Manager!

Hi guys,

Just ran Update Manager this morning (about 15 mins ago) and the option to upgrade to 17.3 is now available.

Running now - 1st time I've done an upgrade rather than a clean install - wish me luck!

Cheers,

Mike.

Re: Your opinions on Windows 10 so far..

It seems to be pretty much the same as 8/8.1 with most of the metro front-end gone. I disagree that it's "pleasing to the eye". To me the entire UI seems a bit of a mish-mash. The big problem is that half of the system utils (control panel, file-explorer, etc) are hold-overs from Windows 7 and some ...

Annoyed with Whisker menu on 17.2

Hi guys, Just installed LM 17.2 (replaced 17.1) and am currently fine-tuning it to my requirements. However, many of these programs now have 'generic' names on the whisker menu. For example GIMP is now just "Image Editor", there are also two entries, both called "Media Player" (Banshee and VLC). Why...

Now to install it!

My local LM mirror now appears to have stable/release ISOs of LM 17.2 xfce

Is this right?

Re: Why do you dual-boot?

I chose the 6th option.

There are a couple of programs that will only run on Windows and they can misbehave on VMs.

Plus Windows isn't too bad to use. was on XP for 10 years without a single crash/malware issue.

Now dual booting LM 17.1 Xfce and Windows 10 Pro...

Re: What does LM 17.2 xfce offer over 17.1 + updates?

Thanks for the replies guys... I've given the 17.2 xfce RC a whirl and it seemed fine (no huge differences from 17.1) after that I went ahead and installed xfce 4.12 on my LM 17.1 install. It went okay, although a few annoying glitches seemed to have been introduced as a result. The updates to Thuna...
