Re: Direct access to

Your question does not provide enough information. You will get better responses if you explain yourself fully instead of assuming that forum members will instinctively know what you are talking about

Re: How to use FN keys as keyboard shortcuts

This is generally set in the bios of the computer. If these buttons do not work and the bios is set correctly, then there may be other problems in the system. On certain systems, the "media keys" (fn + some key) do not work properly due to the manufacturers settings. Sometimes you can add stuff to m...

What version of LibreOffice?

On 4.1.3 it opens as expected. When pressing F5, I click on the link and it opens in my default browser (Chromium) and puts the slides to the background

Re: Blank Screen when booting Linux mint 15

the file you want to edit is /etc/default/grub This line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="" Is where you put things like no modset etc. After you have put your changes there run sudo update-grub Finally to make sure the changes have taken effect, look at the file /boot/grub/grub.cfg You should see your ...

Re: Hard disk not found in Mint 15 KDE

What do you mean by your HDD is unavailable? Your system does not boot? It boots but your /home partition is missing? It boots but you can't find your windows install? I think the best thing you can do to help us, tell us the following What the problem is: What did you do to cause it: Are there erro...

Re: Blank Screen when booting Linux mint 15

I am not sure that I totally understand? Are you saying that you have to boot your system twice (i.e. turn the computer on, then after it starts loading hit the reset button?)

Re: Get rid of boot entry?

This sounds like an UEFI issue (bios). With secure boot and the modern bios versions, this is stored on a part of your hard drive which actually has nothing to do with Linux as multiple Windows installs would show the same way

Try searching for removing entries from UEFI

Re: Strange behavior after changing network config

It is strange that the GUI stuff seemed to change.

However, the networking behavior is normal. Restarting the networking service wont do it since NetworkManager is managing the network, so the wrong service was restarted. Thats why upon reboot it had the IP you wanted.

Re: Skype installation

I believe that skype requires the "ia32-libs" package. At least that was the package name in Mint 13.

Normally, if I need skype I install the ia32-libs package and then grab the deb package from the skype website

Re: MINT 14, want the RIGHT monitor as primary

I would think the easiest way to do this would be to swap the video cords. I had to do this myself many moons ago with Nvidia though. After you swap your video cords (i.e. the right monitor cord is plugged into the left etc) simply rearange which way your mouse moves off the screen. This may not wor...

I am sorry your post is too jumbled to sort around. Are you trying to say that you tried to install the .deb packages that google provides for its plugins and it failed? Please clean up your post, use appropriate spacing and ask clearly what your question is. That will A) make your post easier to re...

Re: MINT 15 not working properly with intel i5 4570 with int

By default it will probably be using the open source drivers.

You are better off to install the fglx drivers from the Repos or to ge tthe drivers from AMD's website and install them that way.

Re: Broken Packages

generally speaking you can use

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get -f install
Which should fix the install.

Additionally you can use synatic to find the broken packages if you want a graphical representation

Re: Mint 15 to 13?

I guess it really depends on your usage.

For myself, I run a local mirror, so I stick with the LTS except for on my work laptop where the later packages of Gnome work better with exchange etc

If you arent looking for leading edge packages and more interested in stability, I would go Mint 13

Re: Executable file NOT FOUND even if IT'S THERE

Try calling the full path using the tab complete

i.e.

/home/user/ad<hit tab>

See how it autocompletes. I have had it before where either a carrage return or a space actually was appended to the filename. This isnt evident until using tab complete
