Re: Disable network-manager without uninstalling it

Well I am not sure how to "properly" do it but you can use these commands: sudo mv /etc/init/network-manager.conf /etc/init/network-manager.conf-disabled sudo mv /etc/xdg/autostart/nm-applet.desktop /etc/xdg/autostart/nm-applet.desktop.disabled Simply moving the configs to a different name will prev...

Re: How to call a admin account for gksudo in a limited acco

what you are looking for is something like the following

Code: Select all

su <priv user> -c "gksudo <command>"
For example I tested this out

Code: Select all

test@localhost $ su coder -c "gksudo nautilus"
Which brought up a root version of nautilus

Re: Updating without live internet connection

You can pull down everything you need on another computer. Everything that gets downloaded will be stored in /var/cache/apt/archives.

You can move those packages to the other computer and install them with the dpkg command.

Re: Shutdown time and Brightness

I am not sure what is going on with the shutdown but can you try dropping to a TTY and trying your brightness?

doing ctrl + alt + f2

Then do your hardware brightness controls. If this works, I can probably help you get it going. I had the same problem on my laptop (though different video card)

Re: Nomachine NX+Cinnamon

for the cinnamon desktop you need to set the custom desktop option in nx

under Custom Settings, select "run the following command" and put

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/gnome-session-cinnamon
in there. You should now be good to go

I could attempt to summarize squid but its easier to link you to wikipedia which has lots of good summarization http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squid_%28software%29 pf sense is a router specific version of bsd, and thats basically all it does. I would encourage you to look it up as well. It may not be ...

Re: copy from usb to hard drive?

Are you using the same user name on both systems?

if so, the majority of your settings are stored in your /home/<user> folder. Copying this over via rsync should be what you need

Re: unable to install 32 bit libs in Nadia_64

I had this problem as well. For me, I was unable to solve it except through a reinstallation. I noticed that reinstallation would work when I was working inside a vm which did not have the same problem as the host even though they were running the same version OS. I would confirm the problem by re-d...

Re: Yes, another ICS topic, but with a twist (I hope)

If I were in your situation I would do something like squid. In my actual setup I have the following pfsense (with dns/dhcp off) ---> squid (which hosts dns/dhcp) ---> wireless router basically squid handles all my internet requests and shovels them out to the pfsense box which does the firewall/rou...

Re: Best Way To Put Windows XP on HDD With LMDE

Based on your specs your system may hurt a little bit running in a VM. However I am not familiar with those two programs and if they are not too intensive you should be ok. If you decide to do the dual boot method, install Windows first, and then Mint, otherwise you can wind up with boot loader prob...

Ok. I have an HP nx9420 laptop with a core2 dual cpu, 4G ram, and Nvidia NVS 510M graphics. It also comes with a Synaptics touch-pad. I am running Mint 13 KDE 32-bit. The touch-pad will function as a normal mouse. But gestures do not work at all. When I go into System Settings there is an icon for ...

Re: unresponsive system needs reboot - maya cinnamon x64

How big is the crash file? I have to deal with these from time to time at work. I can have a look, though it appears that the problem is actually with cinnamon. You could try installing a different Desktop Environment such as XFCE, LXDE, Mate, Gnome-Shell etc and see if the problem continues There w...

Re: Problem at Mounting FlashDisk/External Drive

you can try a couple of work arounds You can either open the permissions up (777) Or you can make your user "own" the folder. So here is how to do both: In order to own the folder yourself instead of root: sudo chown stratus:stratus /media Substitute your own user for stratus (thats me :D ) Why do t...

Re: Getting my MCE remote to work properly

I am guessing that your problem is that it is not actually being broadcast as a remote. What do I mean by that? Well the cheaper remotes actually dont identify themselves as such. More often than not they are actually telling the computer that they are a mouse/keyboard combination and therefore lirc...
