Re: Gparted crashed. Lost extendeds but recovered primaries.

Thanks, Husse,

What I meant by dangerous is that when run from the harddisk, and by mistake,
I make a change that affects a currently mounted partition, it can have undefined results.

I will try testdisk from a pendrive on the still unallocated partition this weekend.

Regards,
Richard.

Re: APTonCD crashes

@emorrp1,

Just noticed this reply.

Since I now have a fresh install of LM7Gloria, I'll give it a try as soon as I catch some free time.
Nice to be working at something again.

[Solved, Thanks.] Gparted crashed. Lost extendeds ....

While trying to format 1st partition from ntfs to ext3, gparted crashed. It was probably not the best idea I've ever had. I think the problem was caused by running gparted from the harddisk. But that is just my experience. And I overlooked it. I have never had a problem when running gparted from a l...

Re: Possible Future Mint Browser???

@red-e-made, Currently, while TDY I'm using an Acer Aspire One, 150 GB HD and 1 GB RAM connected to LCD monitor, keyboard & mouse. My problem with Firefox was that it was great at the start but kept on taking more and more resources. V2.x was worse than 3.5.x but neither was without problems for me....

Re: Possible Future Mint Browser???

I suggest SeaMonkey 2. It allows removal of both Firefox and Thunderbird. I runs well with a dozen or so tabs open without overloading my AA1. Firefox/Iceweasel always pegged the needle on CPU usage after a short while. from http://www.seamonkey-project.org/ "... Containing an Internet browser, emai...

Not using KDE but if you mean the Main Menu, right click brings up an option to remove from Favorites.

Re: Get usplash back if it disappears "halfways" into boot

I hadn't noticed that the splash disappearing was an "error" until I saw this thread. I liked it and prefer splash off. Guess I need to look for how to really turn it off. :) This occurred because I installed another distro on another partition which formatted swap and I installed grub to MBR and am...

Relax. Take a deep breath. Don't do anything else for a moment. Think.

You've removed lots of stuff that now needs to be replaced.
Your data is probably all still there unless you have reformatted already.

Did you make a note of what was actually removed along with python?

Re: Looking for a Netbook thats runs Mint 7 Well

I run LinuxMint 7 Gnome on my Acer Aspire One (ZG5) with 160 GB hard disk w/ the 8.9" screen. works great -sound, video, wireless, etcetera. Currently connected to a 17" LCD monitor, a USB keyboard, a USB mouse and a wider than telephone internet connection. Wireless worked fine before, but only usi...

Re: Will GNOME apps work on KDE cant find repository

< So.. do I have to be particular about which apps are designed for which desktop? Only make sure you have enough hard disk space for everything you wish to use and at least 1 Gig of RAM. I use Kde apps in Gnome and/or Xfce when desired. I have used Gnome apps in Kde3.5 but presently not using Kde4 ...

And it still does the same on Mint 7 Gnome. Seems like it hasn-t worked for a long time. Any ideas, anybody. [Edit: Even after purging/reinstalling, installing python2.5 and the version in repository as suggested as the fix in an ubuntu thread found via google --It still crashes. This has been going...

If the first hard disk is an IDE drive the get another IDE for the second.

A SATA drive will work but I always have problems sooner or later.

Re: Linux Mint 7 - Hibernate with SWAP size smaller than RAM.

Yes, you are probably correct. They advise to have swap large than physical memory in order to Hibernate, but not everyone gets the message. The quickest fix is to create a swapfile. I have read that it is far more flexible and nearly equal in speed to a physical swap. I found this in google: http:/...

Re: Mint Debian

The best way to learn the benefits of a mixed-stable system is to run sidux/sid for a while, at least a couple of years. Much will be learned by going through a cycle of Debian freezes which turns everything in sid on it's head, though it is more stable just nothing new coming in. When the freeze li...
