Re: Login Icon Now "Blue" - What's With That?

You should pf course not use unsafe storage, but in this case it's only the password to the keyring that has an unsafe storage so it's no biggie

Re: Help Removing Linux

I see the acronym PXE and that's the root of it I think The CD you try to use is neither a genuine Windows CD nor a rescue CD but something for installing over network It needs some sort of "firmware" to succeed - I don't know where that is supposed to be on the computer Info about PXE here To wipe ...

Very nice review

Re: Mintupdate SOLVED!

without me having to give it a password first
That's one of the great mysteries why some people have always had to do that, while most people have not
I've had that problem long ago in I think the second version that had mintUpdate (whichever that was :))

Re: Installed dual boot mint8 xp lost sound in xp

There is of course no direct possibility for Mint to do something to sound in XP and vice-versa However windows is known to change the state of "firmware" in a manner that Linux can't handle so it becomes necessary to boot into Windows and make a soft reboot into Linux to get sound and other things ...

Re: Java fails to work in only Firefox!

I guess that you have upgraded to Firefox 3.6
The Mozillazine states that
Starting in Firefox 3.6 "Enable Java" is no longer available in options/preferences and you must use the Add-ons manager.
This is done by
Firefox 3 and above: "Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins -> Java plugin -> Enable

So with a blank CDR or a blank DVD+R or a blank DVD+RW that does not happen?
I'm afraid that beats me

Re: Screen brightness, again.

This depends on the Graphics driver, the restricted ATI driver fglrx has the ATI Catalyst control center which has an option to adjust brightness, and I think (not sure though) the same goes for nvidia-settings

Välkommen till Mint I don't recall this specific problem and it's really not easy to troubleshoot Problems of this kind, mostly Nautilus freaking out, appeared with the Karmic code base, they were not there in Jaunty/Gloria Possible workarounds here You need some Linux knowledge for those, but you s...

This needs more investigation than I have time for now I can however say that it's a reasonably limited problem, but a serious one for those that have it In the meantime can you follow the advice in the bug report and make your fan be constantly on It has something to do with ACPI but if it's going ...

Re: External Hard disk - I can't log on

You have to provide some more facts
You say it's a Lacie Mini ethernet disk
Does this mean it's connected over the network, some kind of NAS?
If it's USB it should just open when you connect it

Re: Screen resolution problems

I don't know why but some nvidia cards do this, it's something ever ongoing I think it can be fixed with a little tinkering, but you should not have to In the desktop I don't use now I have a nvidia 6600 GT - that too must run in Compatibility mode, but it can never use the open "nv" driver, there i...
