Brasero-burned music CD faulty toward end

My son used Brasero to create a music CD image and burned onto a CD (Optimum CD-R 700MB 48X CD-R). The music CD plays fine until ninth or tenth song and then the music starts skipping, getting static-ky, and finally, the CD player (tested different players) gives up trying to play the CD at all. Any...

Re: Max brightness on start up: how to set lower level

Hi bellboy87... Go to Power Management Preferences through the Control Panel, or Main Menu Preferences, or by right clicking on the battery icon on the MATE panel. There, you can determine default brightnesses on AC Power and also, on Battery Power. When I first began using MATE Maya, the brightness...

Kudos to your due diligence and figuring out a solution... I learned something by reading your solution, although some aspects of your terminal commands are still over my head.

Re: When I minimize , thunderbird, firefox etc they dissapea

Your minimized applications are likely docked on the panel. Could simply be that the "windows list" group on your mate-panel has been "compressed." Look for a small three-line icon on the panel > right click on it > move > ... then move icon around to see if your applications icons reappear.

Re: Mate panel does not show buttons for open apps

Hi vladk... Right click on desktop --> change desktop background --> theme --> customize --> controls. Now experiment w/ different Controls settings. I have found individual settings have different parameters determining when the icons go blank and return (show up again) in the taskbar/mate panel. Y...

Re: Caja uses 100% CPU

I don't know the why or how to your specific issue, but want to add that Caja really runs hot on my normally very cool computer, if I have the home folder, or any folder within, open on the desktop. Also, if I have any files or folders icons simply sitting on my desktop, the CPU temperature will oft...

No more file preview icons... Now just clocks and globes!

My file icons were previews, or simple .pdf symbols (simplified red adobe symbol). They were great! But, then, files generated after a certain period in time (after certain updates?) were represented by only blue globe symbols or clock symbols. I have been trying to figure out how to get file previe...

Re: Mint Menu disappeared in Mint 14 Nadia. Help

Hi LU3lnx: If you have not already tried... -- right click on the mint panel or taskbar, and then add to panel "mintMenu/Advanced Menu." Another solution is what "thegreatgazoo" suggested in this link: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=206&t=122459 ... which would replace the mint panel wi...

Re: No suspend/hibernate now?

FYI ... I used to have to get "Suspend" to work on my computer using the codecentral.com solution. However, my Suspend function no longer needs this fix. My guess is that Mint Updater has taken care of this issue at some point, at least for my computer model. Hopefully you find a solution for your p...

My MATE Firefox bookmark issue was solved... See:

Maybe you can use the same solution(s) with Cinnamon.

Re: Caja making CPUs run hot and busy, even when idle

The culprit turned out to be an innocuous .pdf file on my desktop. This file was created when I wanted a financial institution to download a statement. This institution has a third party handle client financial statements, so I was redirected automatically to obtain a statement. The process didn't w...

Re: Backup Tool vs. dpkg --get-selections

Am not familiar w/ using the dkpg method, but when I use Backup Tool per Clem's tutorial (see http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2), a certain number of files will be shown as saved. However, during Restore, even though that number is listed as the baseline, the number of files actually be...

[SOLVED] Caja making CPUs run hot and busy, even when idle

My CPUs recently started running hotter and very active, even when idle. With the help of other Minters (see http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=128226), ... I used htop to discover the energy hog was Caja File Manager. Specifically, if I stop or kill Caja's "poll-timeout-schedule," lis...

Hi All... So, rebooted Mint: Caja is definitely the energy hog CPU resource hog at 10% and is making temperatures rise a good 10C degrees... even when not even launched or while computer is idle!... a very new development. [SOLVED...but] CPU's now running hot and busy, even at idle

kc1di and semicolon: Figured out how to take "second step" after F9 to kill Caja, which was indeed the CPU hog! :) Now, temperature back to normal low 40's C degrees. Caja was stuck in some kind of process loop, because I was definitely not using or launching. And yes, now that I have killed, I cann...

Re: Why are my CPU's now running hot and busy, even at idle?

Greetings kc1di: Thank you so much for your quick reply. I just downloaded htop and like the app, visually. Many processes are active, even though I am basically at idle; the main cpu hog is Caja. I highlighted and tried to kill process (F9), but failed. I used terminal command sudo htop to try to k...
