[SOLVED...but] CPU's now running hot and busy, even at idle

The past day in Systems Monitor/CPU History, my four CPUs suddenly show 25-50% activity, even while everything idling (while I am not doing anything and no applications open; not online). Normally, the CPUs register only 1 - 3% activity... basically flat-lined , when idling. The temperatures shown b...

Re: LibreOffice fails to open after Level 3 updates

Well, after updating, upgrading, cleaning, autocleaning, removing, installing and almost everything else one can do with terminal command, apt-get, still could not launch LibreOffice. :( The "fatal error" (see above) still popped up during the screen splash. This, after completing the remainder of L...

[SOLVED] LibreOffice fails to open after Level 3 updates

Because I use dialup, I wait until getting to a WiFi place to do updates. Yesterday, after doing Level 3 updates, I no longer can launch LibreOffice suite. :( The following "fatal error" pops up: "failed to updatefile:///home/(my user name)/.config/libreoffice/3/user/extensions/bundled/lastsynchroni...

Re: Firefox bookmarks bar disappeared

Recently backported Nadia to Maya and although Chrome seems okay, Firefox stopped loading any visual information for bookmarks of any kind. Attempting to import html bookmarks from anywhere else resulted in a low level clunking sound in my computer and the message "Unable to process the backup file"...

Re: Where does the x86_64-efi folder go?

I am trying to move into /boot/grub folder but keep receiving this message: "The folder "x86_64-efi" cannot be copied because you do not have permissions to create it in the destination." Can you please tell me if I need to complete this step in terminal with a sudo command? Or, given that the /boot...

You might try "Open as Administrator" before specifying chosen application, and then see if your preference will be remembered.

Where does the x86_64-efi folder go?

Could somebody please tell me where the "x86_64-efi" folder goes? This folder recently appeared on my desktop, probably through an inadvertent sleight of hand while I was exploring Mint folders. The folder is not a link, but an original folder. If I trash, will this type of folder be recreated? (The...

Re: [Solved]: How do I get my menu bar back?

The "Add to Panel" not working, when right-clicking desired Applications from MintMenu, seems to be a new development. My Mint Maya 13 live CD still has this functionality, but I no longer do, even after trying to delete all the folders that xenopeek suggested... and resetting. I have also tried "mi...

Re: Maya LTS vs Nadia?

joemartin... Maya LTS is working wonderfully for me, and I do not plan to do a full upgrade anytime soon. Updates, security or otherwise, on my system are kept current. I so like the fact the Linux Mint team respects all the diverse choices people make about whether to stay on the bleeding edge or n...

Re: 5 minutes till login

When I experienced extremely long bootup times, this solution worked for me: In terminal, edit the file /etc/init/failsafe.conf (e.g. sudo pluma /etc/init/failsafe.conf) Then comment out sleep commands by adding the pound sign (#) at the beginning of each of the four lines involving sleep. My bootup...

Re: MATE panels stuck and crashed MINT OS

To thegreatgazoo: My apologies for taking awhile to thank you very much for suggesting a detailed solution to my panel and crashed desktop issue. Unfortunately, I did not have just a little more patience to wait for somebody to respond and began trying all sorts of things to uncrash my system. So, f...

[RESOLVED, not solved] MATE panels stuck and crashed MINT OS

My Mint OS crashed after I added MATE panels to each side of my desktop. After the third additional panel, I experimented (played around) with adding a fourth additional panel to see if it would line up below my default panel, which was at the top. Instead it completely covered my first and default ...

Meanwhile, I just took several screenshots with the Take Screenshot app included w/ Maya MATE. Everythings looks perfect, ...

Re: (Solved) Mate Screensaver activation during movie

I have disabled pesky screensavers from activating during weird times by adding to the desktop panel the "Inhibit Applet" (which I personally place in the "drawer," the latter also added to my panel). Then, I can click on the Inhibit Applet and toggle between "Automatic sleep inhibited" and "Automat...

Jim in NYC:

How about right clicking on empty part of panel > Panel Properties > click to activate Show Hide Buttons > Close

Then, just click the resulting hide buttons at either end of panel to click out of view until you need to use? I think this feature is so cool! 8)

Re: Get More Screensavers For Mate

FYI - Referring back to my previous posts, note that my ASUS U56E was one of the computer models which needed to have a special script programmed to enable its Suspend/Sleep function to work with Mint MATE. This script may also be affecting my computer's use of xscreensaver. Still, even with the sli...
