Re: Where is "shut down" app in linux mint 13 cinnamon

I had a similar problem and could never get the shutdown procedure to work. I ended up going to "keyboard" and making a custom shortcut to pull up system monitor, like task manager in windoze, then I can at least kill processes. If you use ctl-alt-delete for this, I think it is already being used fo...

Re: Using xinit instead of MDM causes problems

I'm not sure if it is the _correct_ way but I go to my original post, click edit, and on the subject line type "<SOLVED>" while leaving the rest of the subject line, then submit! So far, nobody's verbally abused me! :)

Re: swap not on after startup

Fixed it! :D It was a multistage process. I didn't care about keeping my swap encrypted, so I guess that made it easier to fix. I'll leave some links to the resources that helped fix the problem from the cryptswap1 error message and not mounting the newly created swap partition in case anybody else ...

Re: cannot get past GRUB, linux won't boot

I'm not a linux pro by any means, but I've locked up my system in a similar fashion several times. I never had much luck with live USB's and always used Live CD's. After getting the live CD to boot, just do an internet or forum search for commands to get you from your live session to your saved logo...

<SOLVED>swap not on after startup

I have a dual boot (mint-cinnamon/ubuntu studio) and neither OS will have swap turned on after startup. They each have their own swap partition. Both of them, during startup give me a "decrypt" message. I had to repartition a while back and now I'm wondering if I originally installed with the encryp...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

8) I think Cinnamon is the ducksnuts its great keep up the great work with Mint   8) Yeah! Cinnamon goes well with a bagel or mint! :) There is just an inherently familiar feel with Cinnamon. If I don't know how to do something, I just guess and I usually happen to be right. It's intuit...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Unfortunately - the Linux world isn't doing enough work on the lightweights. My very favorite DE is Enlightenment, but it's been stuck at E17 for a long time. LXDE is nice, but it really needs some polishing. I don't understand the need to have a desktop environment that uses 1/4 of the memory on a...

Re: [Solved] System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

The nightly build seems to have fixed it for me, but my question is -- what next? I don't want to keep updating the nightly build. I want to have the next stable release that has this issue fixed. If I now turn on the stable ppa and turn off nightly ppa, will it upgrade to the old stable that I just...

Re: remove grey from Cinnamon

Thanks for the help, the Window theme Esco gives me a little green across the top but the majority of the apps are still grey. It looks like I'll have to live with the grey, as I have bigger issues now. While changing the theme options, my computer crashed several times giving me black screens with ...

Re: Linux Beginners Search Engine

There is a free class at Udacity for learning Python. They teach by working on one big project and the project is creating your own search engine / web crawler. I thought someone on your project may find it useful. Here's the link http://www.udacity.com/overview/Course/ ... ev/apr2012

Re: [Solved] System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

The guaranteed to crash test doesn't work for me, I can ctrl-c, x, & v for hours without issue. I lock up when I scroll with the mouse wheel in Writer in a large document that has tables copied from a web page. Many times just scrolling up and down will crash it, other times after I click on a table...

remove grey from Cinnamon

Sorry if this has already been answered, but I couldn't find it in a forum search. I'm new to Mint/Cinnamon and really like it with one exception. All my apps are a silver / grey! I can't seem to change the window border and title bar colors. I've tried changing themes but they just seem to change t...

Re: Linux Beginners Search Engine

I really like your idea! I wish it was in place a few years ago when I started using Linux. It is so much quicker to search for an issue with Cinnamon without having to add keywords like "Linux, desktop environment" to every search. I recently switched to Linux Mint and found that my Firefox browser...
