Re: Radio Amateur programming tk2312 with chirp

I use a usb sdr.

I use gqrx for my front end. It's not that fancy but it's a good hack. Before I could get qqrx going I had to install gnuradio.

I have more details if you are interested.

Re: NVIDIA CUDA problems

Hi, I have tried this install using several different on line tutorials. I now have a procedure that works on several different installs: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/513265/CPU-Computing-Using-CUDA-Eclipse-and-Java-with-JCu So far, it has not failed me. I included additional stuff in the art...

Re: uninstalled network manager

OK, In case it doesn't work you can also try the method of manually re-installing the network-manager application. You will have to download (of coarse) from a machine that has an Internet connection. Ideally, the "other machine" is Linux so you will be able to get all the dependencies fro...

Re: uninstalled network manager

All in all, manually connecting can be an arduous task first time, with a lot of chances for troubles along the way. It's not your only option if you don't have a network manager and don't have a hardwire. You could install a network manager from a package downloaded from a different, connected mach...

Re: Problem with installing truecrypt

I ask about the signature on the off chance you have a sour download. Truecrypt recommends you check the pedigree of the download... perhaps a good idea because an encryption program is not something we want to be hacked. Again, I don't ask because I suspect a hack; checking the signature has the ad...

In one office I have VBox Windows running as a guest, On it I have installed my printer (Cannon Pixma in my case). Originally, I verified that I could print from the guest. Then, Administration > Printing on a different network machine I added a printer throughthe wizard: Network Printer > find > .....

Re: Problem with installing truecrypt

Humm, Have you checked the signature on the download and selected the right package (32 v 64)? It's not a common problem (for me). None in at last 30 installs. With the huge EULA, I often page down through it and over shoot the exact line where it asks the yes or no. I find if I overshoot by even on...

Re: uninstalled network manager

You can also manually connect to the wireless to get back on. See:

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=133278 ( post at end)

Once connected, you can re-install network-manager from synaptic. In the past I have also WICD when network-manager was troubled.

Whew! I'm really glad it's working. As for Jocky: let's try a different approach: Additional drivers "To install additional drivers, please run the "Software Sources" tool from "Menu->Preferences->Software Sources" and click on the "Additional Drivers" tab. The too...

Re: Anti-Virus Software???

Yes, browser vulnerabilities and accidental email trust are the most significant exposures if you are not running an internet-exposed server. With Linux you are considerably less vulnerable to malicious installation of rootkits, key loggers, etc. than you are with Windows... not only because you are...

Re: Blacklisting of nouveau driver causes blank tty screen.

Hi, The configuration created by your install of the (NVidia site) NVidia driver will be overruled by installing another display driver. In fact, it will be replaced with a re-install of itself (if you choose to use it). But, installing another driver after installing the NVidia site's driver will n...

Re: Blacklisting of nouveau driver causes blank tty screen.

if you want to un-black list the nouveau driver: edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf as root. and remove the blacklist nouveau line. (But, did you uninstall nouveau from the system altogether?) As far as what I did with the NVidia driver (from NVidia), here's a quick sketch of what I did, We start b...

Re: Anti-Virus Software???

No rush, but later on look at rkhunter and chkrootkit.

I run them occasionally. Fact is, the predators don't see (non-server) Linux uses as a cash cows. But backdoors, etc. are possible.

Re: New Motherboard and UEFI bios...

Nothing contenscious here. In my opinion, the original poster is faced with a tough decision. AlbertP's post was very pragmatic and, clearly, well informed. It's true. UEFI or non-UEFI is probably not a choice we will have soon, and getting familiar with it is advisable even if you don't want it on ...

Re: So What's your Monitor Setup?

I'm hooked on dual monitors too. On my desktop I have a dual-dvi card and two lcds. I pretty much stick to the one lcd on my main laptop (I never lug around an extra LCD. :D ). Vanilla desktop switching is fine for the things I do on this machine (mostly). My eyesight is poor, so I connect an extern...

Re: New Motherboard and UEFI bios...

Hi, I also would avoid UEFI. If you buy a UEFI board and build your own system; you have the advantage that WIndows will not be pre-installed with its increasingly belligerent UEFI force-feeding. I prefer Asus AMD boards. They are (still available without UEFI). I also prefer using NVidia non-integr...
