Install PNY Verto GeForce 8500 GT - Help

In my frustration, I neglected to even mention what graphics card I am using. I am using a PNY Verto GeForce 8500 GT (512MB). I was trying to get EnvyNG's (bundled with LM live CD) driver to work, but on second thoughts I decided to use the driver directly from the PNY/NVIDIA site. I have it downloa...

Installing Nvidia Driver WITHOUT restart.

My hard drive is currently unavailable (please don't ask why) so I have to work entirely off of a LiveCD (I have tried a USB drive but it is soooo slow.) What I would like to do is play a Java-based 3D video game called RuneScape. So I have 3 (what I thought to be simple) requirements: 1. NO HARD DR...

Re: [UNSOLVED] Installing PERSISTANT Linux Mint on 4GB USB Flash

Well, I got it to install Ubuntu using the following guide(http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2008/05/15/usb-ubuntu-804-persistent-install-from-linux/#more-401 and I had to use lilo- not grub.), but OMG it is SO SLOW- about 3x SLOWER than LiveCD speed. I don't think this is for me- or I have to go uber-li...

Menu Bug

I am running the latest version of LM from the Live CD and have discovered a problem with the menu. As you may know, if you click the subtitles (System, etc) they 'minimize' to a bar on the leftmost part of the menu as an icon. On that bar is a blank button that when pressed hides the 'minimize' bar...

Yes I have, but eBay has prevailed yet again. Thanks for your input though.

[ClosePls] Installing PERSISTANT Linux Mint on 4GB USB Flash

I have already discovered how to install Mint onto a USB drive in 'LiveCD' mode(http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/10/31 ... /#more-270), but what I really need is a persistent USB install. Does anybody have any idea how to do this?

Re: Elyssa on 4GB Flash Drive (USB)

It worked! Thanks silver-one! Here is the guide I used : http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/10/31 ... /#more-270

EDIT- Please note this guide REQUIRES Windows for install, and is only the equivalent of having a LiveCD on a stick- no persistence whatsoever.

Re: Elyssa on 4GB Flash Drive (USB)

Wow... wouldn't that be cool! A whole OS (or 2) on something smaller than your fingernail! :-)

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a guide for Mint 5 using the live CD, though I did find a guide for installing via windows - which I am doing right now.

I am looking for 2 sticks of PC2100 DDR Desktop (Non-ECC/Registered) RAM that I can buy for under $35. Any idea of where I can get em?

[SOLVED] Elyssa on 4GB Flash Drive (USB)

As my subject states, I want to install Elyssa on a brand new (bought it less than 4 hours ago) 4G USB Flash Drive. I tried to do it just like I would any other drive, but I got this error: The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk: [Errno 5] Input/output error This particula...

Re: Installing nVidia/PNY Graphics Driver

It's pointless to try and make sense of the problems that I have been having as the hard drive is NOT 30GB but 80GB- meaning the drive is bad. Okay, I wiped the old 30GB hdd and let Mint do it's thing... everything went fine till at the end I got this error message midway through: An error occurred ...

Re: Installing nVidia/PNY Graphics Driver

If your PC supports booting from USB, you should be able to boot the CD with the USB stick plugged in, and tell the installer to install to it. I think I will try this, but if I do install to USB doesn't it write to my normal hard disk with a bootloader? I am sorry but you have to restart your comp...

Re: Installing nVidia/PNY Graphics Driver

I was afraid of that... is there a way that you can install Mint onto a USB HDD? Also- to those who were on the IRC helping me, ctrl+alt+bkspce did go to a commandline like thing but nothing happened when I put any commands in just a blinking _. I ctrl alt deleted and rebooted- then the cleaning lad...

Re: Repositories are down!

I don't know if it is just me, and I am a newbie so don't take my word for it, but I have been able to download and install drivers/ Blender just fine... are they back up?

-Ian

EDIT: Nevermind- it was the Ubuntu repos that were still up. The mint repos really are down. *gasp*

Installing nVidia/PNY Graphics Driver

Story: My HDD is currently checked into the ICU... but being the RuneScape addict that I am - and with the new High Detail update - I really want to use my main computers graphics card to play instead of playing low detail on my ancient laptop. I need Java and my graphics driver to play. I already t...
